I first would like to tell you about the inspiration for my manicure. For those of you that may not already know, the Girl Scouts of the USA decided to permit a 7 year old transgendered child into their organization this past November, and needless to say, this has caused a bit of an uproar in numerous communities across the country. A female teen has called for a boycott of Girl Scout cookie sales, and three Girl Scout troops at a Christian school in Alabama has disbanded. I'm not going to delve far into my feelings on the matter because I prefer to keep my opinions to myself, but I will say that I was angry to hear that people are boycotting the Girl Scouts because the organization decided to include a child that is different. I was a Girl Scout years ago, and one of the things I loved about the organization was meeting people very different from me. I was raised to be accepting and non-judgmental, and I strongly believe that having an open mind has opened my life up to many opportunities and experiences that likely would not have been there for me if I had a different mindset. My first thought when I heard about the boycott of cookie sales was:

And so I did! Ok, perhaps I didn't buy ALL the cookies, but I did buy several boxes, and I am proud to say that most of them are still sitting unopened in my freezer. I was starting to feel like a cookie fanatic, hence the idea of painting Cookie Monster nails was born. This was interesting timing because I was trying to come up with an idea for Sarah's Chalkboard Nails dotting contest that would be fun and very different from traditional dotted art. I have never attempted to dots before, but I was determined to try! I don't have any dotting tools so I used the head of a pin and the eraser end of a pencil to get my dots.
I wanted this manicure to be fun, and I love having Cookie Monster peering in from the sides and ogling the cookies. In the end, I had to let him have some because it would be just mean to torment him! I love how this manicure came out, and I had a lot of fun painting it. I don't think I have a chance of winning the contest- there are so many BEAUTIFUL entries- but I hope I can get a few points for being original.
