Nail Art Featuring Zoya Jubilee for Holiday 2018

Press Samples

We are firmly in holiday season, and with Christmas next week, there is only a week left to make whatever holiday purchases you have planned! To make the holidays all the more stressful, I am leaving our house in California behind today and flying with my boys to Arizona to start our new life. New house + completely new location + now getting to shop for gifts means I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment! It's most likely going to be a simple holiday for us this year, but as long as we're together, it should all be fine. Now how about we get to some nails!

This holiday season, Zoya has really stepped up their game with the new Jubilee Collection. This year we have seen so much red and pink from the brand, and I am delighted they took note and brought back more colours, like purples and teals. They also introduced their new Leopard Spots topper. Designed as a crackle polish for placement over their PixieDust polishes, I really wanted to create nail art that was a play on the topper. Check it out!

Leopard print nails are always so fun to wear with the added bonus of being super easy. You really cannot mess them up! I'm particularly fond of incorporating fun and unusual shades in my animal print designs, and this look really won me over.

Polishes used:
Carson
Chiara
Danica
Juniper
Cookie
Kateri
Leopard Spots Topper
Willa (black cream not part of Jubilee Collection)

In addition to the leopard print design, I was also really inspired to create another design for this collection. Rather that creating a second post, I'm just going to add it here.

To create this colourful design, I dotted polishes over my base and used saran wrap to blend the shades together slightly and to blot away excess. I then added in a few random dry brush spots of the golden Astrid to tie the nails in with my simple accent nail.

Polishes used:
Astrid
Leigh
Maxine
Allison
Taryn

What do you think of these nail art designs? Both are simple and quick to create, but the final result is beautiful! There is also the added bonus of blowing people's minds when they discover you did it yourself!

The Jubilee Collection is available for purchase now, and each shade retails for $10. While all the other shades in this collection come with the usual thinner Zoya brush, the Leopard Spots Topper uses Zoya's new Z-Wide brush. For those that prefer a wider brush in general, and wish to switch out the brushes they already have, they can be purchased for $2 per brush.

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!

The Perfect Holiday red lip and a makeup remover by Crystal Hearts Cosmetics

Press Sample

I love coming across new-to-me brands when I cover shows, and I am so excited to be able to share one of them with you today! Crystal Hearts Cosmetics caught my eye while at Cosmoprof North America this past summer, and I brought back a few items to test out.

I've been holding off on this review since I knew this lipstick was going to be an amazing lippie to wear over the holiday season, and was I right about that! Let's jump in on the review and get a closer look at the products!

Liquid Matte Lipstick

I got to test out the Liquid Matte Lipstick in the shade Dahlia. Wearing a red lipstick is a great confidence booster for me and I love wearing this colour no matter what time of year! I know not everyone feels the same way, but I figured with the holiday season parties and other festivities, this just may be the colour you are looking for!

The doe foot applicator makes for easy application, and I only used one coat for smooth and even coverage over my pucker.

Seriously, how pretty is this colour? While it dries down to a matte finish, it is a comfortable matte. I've worn this several days in a row, and my lips have never felt dried out. It has nice lasting power as well, and I've only had to lightly touch up the center parts of my lips after really chowing down on a burger and my drinks throughout the day.

Retail: $16

Not only am I in love with this colour, this formula has really won me over! So many matte liquid lipsticks become painfully dry for me, so this was a welcome change in pace. I definitely need to pick up more colours from Crystal Hearts Cosmetics!

Glacial Water Cleansing Sherbet

I also had the opportunity to test out Crystal Hearts Cosmetics' cleanser. Let me get one thing out of the way right from the start: while the name includes glacial water and it is an ingredient, you will be sorely disappointed if you are expecting a more water based formula. The first ingredient is mineral oil, and it definitely has a greasy feeling to it, especially when applied to the face. This cleanser is designed to remove makeup, so consider this more as a makeup remover than a true facial cleanser.

I wanted to try this after my normal makeup products: foundation, concealer, blush, eyeshadows, eyebrow pencil, mascara, and the lipstick shown above.

After a scoop and a little massaging, my makeup broke up quickly and was ready to rinse off with lukewarm water as directed.

While I wasn't wearing any waterproof items specifically, this makeup removing balm should easily remove just about any makeup you have on your face. Just a few scoops of water and may face was makeup free, other than my tubing mascara. My face surprisingly didn't feel oily after using the Glacial Water Cleansing Sherbet, although I do not like to leave mineral oil-based products on my skin. I promptly followed up with a wash with my normal facial cleanser, finished up my skincare routine, and was off to dreamland.

Retail: $16 for 30 mL
$24 for 90 mL

I might have had a little too much fun with these photos, haha!

I really enjoyed testing out these products by Crystal Hearts Cosmetics. The lipstick in particular is a big winner for me, and I plan to pick up more shades to try out. I do like how well the Glacial Water Cleansing Sherbet removed all my makeup, although I'm not sure that I want to commit to a product that is laden with mineral oil for daily use. It's definitely a good option for when I'm wearing waterproof items, or if you ever wear stubborn stage makeup, it is a great option!

Have you tried any products from Crystal Hearts Cosmetics? If so, chime in and tell me what you like! Would you use either of these products? I'd love the hear from you!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!

Get your brows in tip top shape with Full Brow

Press Samples

There was a time when I didn't realize just how important eyebrows are at framing your eyes, and I cringe a little every time I see a photo of me all made up but my eye brows are untouched. Thankfully, I have since learned my lesson, and my brows are one of the first things I take care of when I do my makeup. I'm not fond of the super heavily done up eyebrows on myself, and I have become a huge fan of Full Brow products to get a softer, more natural look quickly and easily.

Full Brow has recently released some new products, and I'm excited to be able to share them with you. Some you have already seen mention in my makeup posts on Instagram on occasion as I've been trying them out, but today, I'm bringing you a full dedicated post. Ready? Let's jump in!

Skinny Brow

For when you want to create the look of individual hairs, look no further than the Skinny Brow. This slim-line pencil is perfect for creating the illusion of hairs while the firm spoolie on the opposite end gives a nice brushed out look. The pencil end is retractable, so all you have to do it quick add a few strokes and then retract back for safe keeping until your next use.

I also use my Skinny Brow for a more filled in look, as I have shown here. I'm using the colour Taupe for a more natural look.

3-in-1 Brow Fibre

Until using this product, it had been some time since I've used any type of eyebrow gel. My eyebrows sometimes get a but unruly throughout the day, and I love that I can count on the Brow Fibre to lock them in place. The spoolie end is small and the perfect size to target exactly where you want to brush while small fibers add a little more volume to your eyebrows.

The Brow Fibre itself isn't quite enough to use by itself on my eyebrows, but it is the perfect accompaniment to use with the Skinny Brow to complete my look.

Glow Kit

The Glow Kit is a limited edition set featuring Full Brow's Brighten-Up Eye Cream and pencil Highlighter. While neither item is new to the brand lineup, this pairing is new and released for the holiday season.

While neither are new, this is actually the first time I've tried the Brighten-Up Eye Cream. It has a fluffy consistency that serves as a great base for eye makeup, all while adding an subtle illuminating glow to your eye area. It also has a blurring effect to  help fine lines disappear. While the concealing aspect is a great reason to use this product, I particularly love that it actually treats and helps repair the delicate eye area.

I've used Full Brow's Highlighter before this set, and I like to use it to add glow to my browbone and the inner corners of my eyes. Don't let the pencil format fool you: the application is incredible smooth due to the vitamin E in the formula. It can be used anywhere on the face and is lovely across the tops of cheekbones as well!

I've used other Full Brow products in the past, and I have really enjoyed trying the newer items! I've been using these products almost exclusively for a bit now and I certainly am a fan!

As luck would have it, I am putting this post up almost exactly two years to the day after previous Full Brow post. Be sure to check it out to learn more about their Brow Powder and Brow Wax, both holy grail products I adore as well!

Have you tried any Full Brow products? What types of eye brow products do you prefer? I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!

Holiday Nail Art with Born Pretty Store Stamping Plate L005

Press Sample

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Well, unfortunately maybe not quite so much for me. I am currently surrounded by boxes and living with the barest minimum at the moment as we prepare for our move next week. The timing is great since we don't have to worry about my oldest missing much kindergarten and my husband has the holiday to help settle into the new house, but that does mean no lights or decorations this holiday season. My kids and I did put up a felt tree on the wall on Thanksgiving, and while it may not be much, it's the most we can do right now so we aren't scrambling last minute packing. At least I have some polish out so I can do my nails a little longer!

Speaking of nails, I have the cutest stamping plate by Born Pretty Store to share with you! My Born Pretty package sadly arrived so close to the holidays I know there isn't time to order this and receive it in time for this Christmas, but it is totally worth checking out and picking up for next year! Here's my nail art look I created with this plate.

To create this look, I used Literary Lacquers A Thousand Christmas Trees for my green nails and KBShimmer's I'll Be Chrome For Christmas as the base for my stamping. I then used the hanging images from this stamping plate with Celestial for Color4Nails stamping polish in Crimson to finish the look.

Since I didn't get a lot of time to play with this plate on my nails, I did want to share a few other looks and show how well it stamps with swatch sticks.

ellagee polish: Drink Up Me Hearties Yo Ho Ho!
Girly Bits Cosmetics: British Racing Green

Envy Lacquer: Illuminacion
DIFFERENT Dimension: Silver Lining

KBShimmer: I Cat Even
Rica: Whiteout

This plate is adorable, and you can definitely do many more things with it besides these looks I've shown here! This particular stamping plate can be picked up from Born Pretty Store here. It usually takes 4-8 weeks for shipping so this would be something to pick up for the celestial or snow designs for right now and save the Christmas specific images for next year. Or not, you do you!

While you are visiting the store, be sure to check out all the Born Pretty Store has to offer for your nail art needs! You can also save 10% off regular priced items with discount code QWL91.

Unless I am able to squeak in another nail art look this week, this may be my last holiday look for the year. Let me live vicariously through you: tell me what designs are you wearing on your nails this holiday season!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!

Dry Brush Nail art with Londontown's Back With a Vengeance Collection

Press Sample

Londontown has come "Back With a Vengeance" for their latest fall collection, but don't let this release deceive you. The shades are more timeless and can easily be worn any time of year. This is a large part of allure of this collection for me, and I opted to put three of the four shades together for a fun nail art design. Let's check it out!

To create this look, I started off with Jane Austen, a lovely light pink toned lavender crème, as my base shade.

I then used the vibrant cobalt blue crème, Iconic, and dry brushed on top of my base. I then used Kissed By Rose Gold, a metallic rose gold shade, and again dry brushed in select locations on my nails. I sealed everything in with Gel Genius top coat and went on my way.

I really love the way this simple design turned out, and the colours play so beautifully together! I actually painted this look for my trip to Los Angeles for The Makeup Show, and between the show and my immediate trip right afterwards, I ended up wearing this look for a week and a half! During that time, I didn't have a single chip, and my nails looked just as nice when I got home and removed my polish as they did when I painted them the first day. Now that's what I call lasting power!

All three of these shades are currently available from the Londontown website for $16 each. If you're wanting a manicure that lasts a long time, I would strongly recommend their Gel Genius top coat as well. It's a little more spendy that other brands at $20 a bottle, but it's the best top coat I have used for long term wear.

I hope you've enjoyed today's post! Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
