Did someone say....COOKIE?

I originally created this blog so I can share my world with everyone, but I have not really shared much around me.  Sure, I'm happy to share giveaways that I have stumbled across to my readers, but I want this blog to be a little more personal than that.  I read a lot of nail blogs, and I am so jealous that all these lovely ladies have beautiful nails and mine are just a little blah.  Living in the desert does not help, and my cuticles always seem a little dry no matter how much I moisturize.  I always look forward to monsoon season in Tucson if only because it is more humid and both my skin and nails get a break from the oh-so-dry "winter" we get here.  That being said, I have a mani that I am going to share because I just love it so much.

I first would like to tell you about the inspiration for my manicure.  For those of you that may not already know, the Girl Scouts of the USA  decided to permit a 7 year old transgendered child into their organization this past November, and needless to say, this has caused a bit of an uproar in numerous communities across the country.  A female teen has called for a boycott of Girl Scout cookie sales, and three Girl Scout troops at a Christian school in Alabama has disbanded.  I'm not going to delve far into my feelings on the matter because I prefer to keep my opinions to myself, but I will say that I was angry to hear that people are boycotting the Girl Scouts because the organization decided to include a child that is different.  I was a Girl Scout years ago, and one of the things I loved about the organization was meeting people very different from me.  I was raised to be accepting and non-judgmental, and I strongly believe that having an open mind has opened my life up to many opportunities and experiences that likely would not have been there for me if I had a different mindset.  My first thought when I heard about the boycott of cookie sales was:
Made by thejediwife (yours truly!) at
Character is made by Allie Brosh at Hyperbole and a Half (which I strongly encourage you to visit)

And so I did!  Ok, perhaps I didn't buy ALL the cookies, but I did buy several boxes, and I am proud to say that most of them are still sitting unopened in my freezer.  I was starting to feel like a cookie fanatic, hence the idea of painting Cookie Monster nails was born.  This was interesting timing because I was trying to come up with an idea for Sarah's Chalkboard Nails dotting contest that would be fun and very different from traditional dotted art.  I have never attempted to dots before, but I was determined to try!  I don't have any dotting tools so I used the head of a pin and the eraser end of a pencil to get my dots.

I wanted this manicure to be fun, and I love having Cookie Monster peering in from the sides and ogling the cookies.  In the end, I had to let him have some because it would be just mean to torment him!  I love how this manicure came out, and I had a lot of fun painting it.  I don't think I have a chance of winning the contest- there are so many BEAUTIFUL entries- but I hope I can get a few points for being original.

  1. Love that mani, and good for girl scouts for including someone 'different' i appreciate that.

  2. That is just adorable! And good for you for standing up to something you didn't agree with!

  3. I ADORE Hyperbole and a Half - I've read through every single post. I hope she continues to post though they are getting further and further apart. Love the nails you did too they're a beaut. It's so nice to see someone who has their own opinions and is open minded too - I don't like to generalise, but I know a lot of people who find it all to easy to just agree with what they're told to think xxx

    1. I was introduced to Hyperbole and a Half several months ago, and I read every comic that day. I love it immensely, and look forward to seeing new posts.

There are a lot of things that I don't agree with, but I discovered that it is best to keep my mouth shut most of the time and choose my battles wisely. I may not agree with other opinions, but I do believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Equality is one of the issues that does make me put my foot down though :)
