Born Pretty Store: Stamping Guide Template

Press Sample

Happy Tuesday, dear readers! For those of you that were off yesterday for Labor Day, I hope you had a wonderful three day weekend! I had a bunch of random things to get done so we ended up just hanging around the house for the day. It certainly wasn't a day off for me, but at least my husband was home for extra support. Now let me stop the chit chat and get to my post!

I received this stamping guide template from Born Pretty Store to review, and I was determined to play with it this past weekend. While they do have stamping guides with a variety of shapes, I was sent the more basic rectangular and oval shaped version. While it quickly made me think of stamping with a french manicure or a ruffian nail art design, I wanted to do something a little different to see if this particular stencil could be more versatile. Check out my design below!

I first started my design by using Londontown Dolly Mix as my base shade. I then hand painted rounded segments of Londontown Weekend Cheers randomly on sections of my nails.

After placing Pueen stamping polish in Black Jack on my desired design of my Born Pretty Store stamping plate BP17, I set the smallest oval stencil exposing the very specific region of the stamped image I wanted. I then picked up the segment with my stamper and placed the image on my nails. I then sealed everything in with top coat.

My nail art design didn't turn out exactly how I envisioned it, but the final result is pretty cute.

I really like the idea behind this stencil, although I probably would have had more fun with one of the other shapes. That being said, this particular stencil provided me with a challenge, and I think I did a decent job creating a look that was unexpected based on the simple shapes. While I had no trouble with using the stencil in combination with a plate and my stamper, I suspect results may vary based on the specific plate and stamping head used. The BP17 plate isn't quite as deeply etched as I would prefer, and I feel like the stencil serves as an obstacle when it comes to picking up images. I did have a little trouble picking up the full image I wanted, and I generally don't have that much of an issue without the stencil. Also, I stick with squishy-type stencils due to my nail curvature, and if you normally use a firm stamping head, I think these stencils will make picking up the images very difficult. Like every aspect of stamping, it really comes down to trial and error and practice.

This stencil and others with different shape cutouts can be purchased from Born Pretty Store here.

What do you think about this design? Have you used a stencil over a stamping plate in creating nail art designs? How would you use this particular oval and rectangular plate? I'd love the hear from you!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!

XO!

  1. The stencil was awful for me! It's just too thick to get a good pickup of the image. You did a way better job than I could get LOL

  4. I bet if you used tape to block areas you could create your own shape. :) I like the concept behind this.

  5. Going to be honest, I didn't understand it at all from the first photo... like I couldn't wrap my head around what you'd do with the shapes!

However, I think it's neat that you found a way to section off another plate into a segment using the cut outs. Although like Kristi said, I but you could just do it with tape. Can't say I'm in total love with the concept. :\

  7. It's too bad it doesn't live up to expectations. You did a great job in spite of it though.

  8. If I stamped more, I'd probably give this a shot. I've heard mixed reviews of it, but I'm still intrigued.

  9. It is a cool idea, but yeah, a super-squishy stamper is a must

  10. This is kind of cool, but I agree with everyone else saying you could just use tape or liquid latex.
