Good morning, dear readers! In my previous post, I shared the new line of Mommy & Me decals and stencils from You Polish that I helped to create. I am thrilled to see so much excitement about this line, whether it is from moms that get to share with their little ones or those of you with smaller nail beds and/or nubbins that feel that most vinyls on the market are just a little too big. My mini me is currently going through the terrible two stage, and I suspect it's only gotten worse the closer I get to delivering his baby brother. At least I can show off each of the designs on my nails, right?
For today's post, I wanted to share the nail art I created using the Bows, Spirals and Mermaids sheet. Let's check it out!
Each sheet comes with bows in two sizes, spiral patterns in four sizes, and mermaids in three sizes. I was a little unsure of the mermaids being shrunk down so much, but I was pleasantly surprised to see they were still easy to identify in miniature form.
I had the hardest time designing a look that incorporated the different parts from this sheet! I ended up pulling out polishes that had different finishes in a colour palette I liked and just sort of ran with it. I'm not sure that the final look really works, but it's colourful and that's good for me!
Something about having multiple mermaids on one finger makes me want to spring into singing the Little Mermaid song with all of Ariel's sisters. I guess it's a good thing I'm a blogger and not a YouTuber so your ears are spared. Trust me, I'm singing it now....
For this nail, I used the largest and smallest size mermaids. This sheet comes with both left and right facing mermaids for those of you that desire to have a mermaid relay race on their nails. Or perhaps they're all really dedicated to watching a tennis match? Oh boy, I've clearly had too much caffeine this morning and need to get back to the post....
I decided to use the bows as decals and used both sizes for this manicure. This is my index finger, which you can *totally* tell in this closeup, right? I used the larger bow on my index finger and the smaller one on my pinky. Both sizes have a little bit of overhang that I clipped off with my cuticle nippers. Just for sizing reference, the smaller sized bow was just a hair too short to extend across my ring finger and even shorter for my middle and index fingers when placed horizontally. If you're using this size on adult fingers, you can expect to be limited to placement on your pinky or doing a cute little angle at the ends of your other nails. I'm going to have to remember the latter for holiday nails in five months!
Apparently I didn't take a close up photo of my ring finger with the spirals because pregnancy brain (Go me; sorry about that!), so let me comment on that now. I used the second largest and the smallest sized spirals as stencils and layered them prior to painting to create this look. While I love this layered look and the colour combination, the polish I used for the top portion was not the best pick. It unfortunately dried just a little too quickly, and it prevented me from having the really clean lines I wanted to achieve. I considered redoing it with another colour, but my toddler's nap time had come to an end and I just had to go with it. My point is the lack of crisp curves is due to user error (Yo!) and not the stencils themselves.

ReplyDeleteThey certainly are! I love having so many options to choose from, although some days it does feel a little overwhelming.
DeleteWhat a good idea to use the different sizes together. These would be good even for folks without a little one to share with.
