Literary Lacquers: The Cactus Duo and Book Club Polishes

Press Sample

Good morning, dear readers! I am now back at home and trying to get some sense of normalcy back while scrambling to catch up with blog posts. Let's jump into today's blog post, shall we?

For today's post, I have new Literary Lacquers shades to share. You've already seen one of them in a previous blog post as it was created for my blog's fourth birthday. Rather than release it as a single shade, Amy, the creative genius behind the brand, decided to use my inspiration story to create a second shade. First up is The Cactus Duo!

The Cactus, by O. Henry tells us the story of the pompous, arrogant, broken-hearted Trysdale. The story opens with him upset after watching the woman he loves marry another man. During their courtship, she had heard that he spoke fluent Spanish, he kept quiet and allowed her to assume that it was true. When he proposed to her, she sent her answer the next day. A cactus in a pot bearing a tag with a single word. Ventomarme. Not hearing anything else from her, he decided that the cactus was a refusal of his proposal and he turned cold toward her. Only after attending her wedding to another man, does he find out that ventomarme means come and take me.
I naturally had to take a photo of the duo with some of my succulents!

Come and Take Me
Three coats plus top coat

Jelly fire opal orange packed with holographic microglitter and opalescent flakies. Opaque at three coats on shorter nails, those with longer or more visible nail lines may want to use a base polish.

Come and Take Me is dedicated to the amazing Debbie of The Crumpet blog as a thank you for her years of blogging for Literary Lacquers. I cannot think of a more beautiful tribute for her, and I wish her the best in whatever the future brings her way.

It is no secret that I love orange polish, and Come and Take Me is fabulous! I am definitely going to be wearing this a lot. It is the perfect colour for summer pedicures! The formula was perfect, and three coats covered any visible nail lines at my current nail length.

Ventomarme
Three coats plus top coat

Designed for [my fourth] blogiversary, a dusty grey-green-blue with holographic microglitter, silver microflakes, and blue glass flecks. Best at three coats.

I've already shared this before for my blogiversary, but I wanted to wear it again so my nails would look consistent for pictures for this duo. If you want to see more photos of Ventomarme swatched over longer nails, check out my previous post here. It is a fantastic colour with a great formula, and I hope you love it as much as I do!

The Cactus Duo is currently available for purchase Literary Lacquers Etsy shop here. Each polish retails for $10.

Now on to special book club polishes!

I am part of the Literary (&) Lacquers Facebook group, and the group has a book club complete with discussion. Members contribute an inspiration photo as well as a design idea, and the group votes for a favorite idea. Amy then creates the winning idea into polish that is exclusively available for group members. There are two new shades now available for purchase, so be sure to join the group so you can purchase these! Let's check them out!

Serious Nap Rays
Three coats plus top coat

Inspired by Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Moody grey-purple-taupe with orange shimmer, pink glass fleck, purple flakies and just a touch of linear holo. Looks different in every light.

Serious Nap Rays is actually my baby, and I am so excited to see this shade brought to life. It is one of those shades that looks very different depending on lighting and your skin tone- some may find it pulling more taupe while others have said they find it more purple. It is nothing like anything I own, and while I'm sure I do have some bias, it is a gorgeous polish. The formula is sublime!

In case you were wondering, this is the quote in which I pulled the name Serious Nap Rays.

Homework is not an option. My bed is sending out serious nap rays. I can't help myself. The fluffy pillows and warm comforter are more powerful than I am. I have no choice but to snuggle under the covers.

My Whirlwind Other Half
As a topper: one coat over Literary Lacquers Salmon Chanted Evening plus top coat
Ring finger alone: three coats plus top coat

Designed with Jennifer Zakroff inspired by We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler. Sheer shimmery crelly white, packed with holographic microglitter and rainbow opalescent flakies.

These photos do not do this gorgeous polish justice. It is so pretty and magical in real life, and I will be giving this a lot of love! The formula is sheer perfection, and you can wear it alone or as a topper. With three coats alone, there is still a little visible nail line showing, but it still looks amazing!

The book club polishes are available for purchase on the Literary Lacquers etsy shop here until April 16th. They are exclusive to members of Literary (&) Lacquers group members only, but you can easily get yours by joining the group here. The book club polishes also retail for $10 each.

What do you think of the latest Literary Lacquers offerings? Is there one that grabs your attention? I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, have a wonderful day!
XO!
