LynB Designs: Us Against the World Collection

Press Sample

Back when I had significantly more free time, I was often found with a book in hand. One of my favorite characters is Sherlock Holmes, and I would eagerly read and attempt (and fail miserably) to solve the case before our detective. While I have not yet had the pleasure of watching Sherlock on BBC, I was delighted to see that Jenna of LynB Designs has created a collection with the inspiration, and I have them here for your viewing pleasure! The collection consists on nine beautifully sparkled shades; there is definitely something for everyone with this collection! Let's get a closer look at each polish, shall we?

Solve Me a Crime, Sherlock Holmes
Two coats plus top coat

Purple-blue with pink to green to silver shimmer and a scattering of tiny purple holo glitter

Who says crime doesn't look good? Ok, so maybe crime itself doesn't look good, but the challenge of solving it is certainly lovely! Beautiful and very feminine, this is sure to win a few hearts! The first coat went on a little unevenly, but the second coat evened out the polish perfectly.

By the Pricking of My Thumbs
Two coats plus top coat

Teal/green toned charcoal grey with red to violet shimmer and linear holo

Is there a colour that you never would have though would be a favorite, but they win you over every time? Grey shades are like that for me, with the additional shimmer in this beauty taking my breath away. By The Pricking of my Thumbs is definitely one of my top picks from this collection! The formula is a little on the thinner side, but it was still very easy to work with and apply to the nails.

I Needed a Hug
Two coats plus top coat

Blue to aqua to violet UCC flakes in grey base

While By The Pricking of my Thumbs is more what I consider to be grey, I Needed a Hug is more of a light taupe. I have to admit this is not the type of polish I am generally drawn towards, but once it was on my nails, I really did enjoy it! I had no issues with application, and the flakes spread out so nicely across my nails. I should note I had more polish on the brush than I intended for my second coat (and kept it up for consistency sake on my nails for these swatches) so it may be a three-coater for those that paint with thinner coats.

I Don't Shave for Sherlock Holmes
Three coats plus top coat

Pale aqua with intense copper shimmer, pink glass fleck, and micro holo sparkle

With spring right around the corner, this is a great time to be picking up gorgeous aqua polishes! I love all the sparkle in this beauty so much, even though my camera had some trouble picking it all up. The formula was a little on the thicker side, and as expected with this type of colour, this polish does require a little bit of patience. The first two coats were a little uneven and patchy, but the third coat helped to even out the finish for the most part. A final layer of top coat helped to add that extra bit of leveling, and my nails were all set to dazzle!

Short Version, Not Dead
Two coats plus top coat

Bright pinky red base with intense pink to violet to blue shimmer

Let me just start off by saying these photos don't do this polish justice. My camera kept freaking out on me with all this shimmer; perhaps it just couldn't handle the awesomeness? In all seriousness, this polish is exquisite and my personal favorite from the collection. Not only is the colour just so gosh darn pretty, the formula is on point!

Retail: $10

The H is for Hamish
Two coats plus top coat

Lilac purple with gold glass fleck, intense turquoise shimmer, and gold holo micro glitter

The H is for Hamish certainly has a lot going for it! This polish is such a great colour for spring and Easter (for those that celebrate), and the combination is incredibly delicate and feminine. The combination of the shimmer and micro glitter in particular give the illusion that the finish is textured, but my nails are very smooth in these photos. The formula was great: not too thick or thin, it applied easy to my nails.

Sherlock the Dragon Slayer
Two coats plus top coat

Deep emerald multichrome that shifts from violet to blue to green with orange iridescent glitters and copper micro holo

Multichrome polishes are just so pretty to look at, although you do have to remember to pay attention to the road while driving and not just flit your fingers about in the light to change the appearance on your nails. I cannot be the only person that needs that reminder, right? Whether you do or not, it's hard to deny the beauty of a shifty nail polish, and the added iridescent glitters and copper micro holo add a fun twist to the polish. I have no issues to report with the formula of this beauty.

The Posh Boy and the Dominatrix
Two coats plus top coat

Slinky black base with red shimmer throughout, sparks of aqua, and red glass flecks with a linear holo kick

Sexy, dark, and full of sparkle? It certainly looks like it fits the name to me! I love this colour for date night because your nails want to feel desirable too! This polish certainly packs a punch with the colour! The formula is so phenomenal that is just about applies itself!

Retail: $10

Better Class of Criminal
Two coats plus top coat

Army green crelly base with green to blue to purple chameleon glitter, a rainbow of holo glitters, and a smattering of neon dot glitters.

I freaking love this polish! I colour combination of the base shade with the glitters is definitely unusual and unique to my collection, but is still just works! While I suspect it won't be the top shade in this collection, it is still a lot of fun a definitely worth sporting on your nails when you're feeling a little adventurous. This polish was easy overall to apply to my nails. While there was a little bit of glitter clustering, they did end up separating nicely with a little bit of coaxing for a colourful, more dispersed look.

  6. I'm not usually a fan of polishes like Better Class of criminal but it was the first one my eye was drawn to in the collage pic at the top. Must mean my tastes are evolving.
