KBShimmer: Winter Is Coming to the December Polish Pickup

Press Sample

Greetings, dear readers, and happy Monday! I'm cutting it close with this post as the December Polish Pickup opens TODAY in just a few hours, but at least I didn't miss it! If you're eagerly anticipating the opening today, let me give you another look at two of the offerings available this month. KBShimmer is offering a nail polish and a sugar scrub; I'm not sure which one I enjoy the most! As I often start my manicures with a scrub, let's start off with that first. Let's do this!

Cocoa & Cookies Sugar Scrub

There's something special about heading outside to build a snowman, or to drag your sled to the top of a hill just to zoom back down on a crisp winter's day.  For me, making snow angels and getting into snowball fights made for the best outdoor fun.  But a day of winter play wouldn't be complete without heading inside for a warm cup of cocoa and a fresh cookie.

Cocoa & Cookies sugar scrub is inspired by the cold weather treats of the same name.  This scrub starts out with notes of warm steamed milk and rich chocolate.  A hint of vanilla and sugary sweetness along with the tan color of the scrub bring to mind fresh-baked sugar cookies. Like your favorite sprinkles, a hint of gold mica completes this yummy scrub.  For use all over your body, this scrub will help even the driest winter skin.

I've not kept it a secret that I love the KBShimmer sugar scrubs- they always smell so delicious and they leave my skin feeling oh-so-soft! I like to use them on my hands between manicures to slough off any dead skin that may be lingering around causing rough patches, and some make their way into my shower for full body exfoliation. I like to use these every 2 to three days in the shower. The scent selection is generally what determines if the scrub stays at my sink or  goes on the ledge in my shower stall.

I love baking cakes, cookies and brownies, but I'm not particularly fond of smelling like them. This is what intrigues me the most about this particular scent offering from KBShimmer. There is a slight sweetness to this fragrance, but it is far from too sweet. It's not too intense chocolate (although I wouldn't mind that!) for the cocoa aspect, and I agree with the description that the vanilla is subtle. It is a beautiful balance of warmth and sweetness, not leaning too far in either direction. While I originally thought this sugar scrub would end up staying on my sink for hand scrub use only, I adore the scent balance and will actually be enjoying this in the shower as well. While the scent is certainly there, it isn't too intense for my sensitive nose!

Un-brrr-lievable Nail Polish

Growing up in Minnesota, we joked about having four seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction.  While it's not really that bad, Minnesotans have learned to embrace and even celebrate the cold.  One way we do that is with our annual Winter Carnival. Featured as its centerpiece is a giant ice castle constructed of ice blocks and ice walls, each colorfully lit for an amazing visual experience that can only be described as Un-brrr-lieveable!

Un-brrr-lieveable is a cool-toned polish that starts out as a rich purple hue.  When your hands are warm, the purple quickly shifts to a bold icy blue reminiscent of those majestic ice castles.  Iridescent flakes in tones of pink, purple, aqua, green and gold light up this wintery nail polish shade, while micro holo glitters add a hint of sparkle and shine.

I do NOT do cold weather, but I have to admit visiting an ice castle sounds pretty awesome and worth bundling up for one of these years! That said, I still love polishes inspired by cold weather, and this one is no exception. How gorgeous is this polish! I've a huge fan of flake-filled polishes with a matte finish, so since this is my blog, that's what you're gonna get the most of today!

The formula was really easy to work with, and I applied two coats to my nails for these photos. Under the bright light setup I can see a hint of visible nail line, but in normal lighting conditions, I didn't notice it at all. Those with longer nails or very white nail lines may want to use a third coat for opacity. Alternately, you can opt to layer it over a lighter shade. That leads to the question: do you layer over a light blue or a purple? I guess it depends on if you tend to lean more towards cooler or warmer temperatures naturally! I also added a layer of matte top coat for these photos.

I didn't want to leave you completely hanging, so here are a few photos where I added a glossy top coat (KBShimmer's new Free & Clear 5-free Quick Dry Top Coat). It's certainly pretty either way, although the shine fights with my light setup and glare some here. If you're a fan of blues and purples, this is a must have polish for your collection! My love of flakes has cooled off, no pun intended, but this one is fabulous!

KBShimmer has certainly contributed two fantastic options this month, and I'm not sure which one I enjoy more! Both of these will be available for purchase TODAY on the Polish Pickup website at 11am EST / 8am PST. They are using a different format regarding days this month, and it will remain open through Friday, December 6th.

Please keep in mind orders submitted through the Polish Pickup are submitted as a preorder; allow up to three weeks for shipping out to you. Unless your order contains exclusively domestic items that can be received by Polish Pickup headquarters quickly for earlier shipping, your packages likely will not make it in time to you for Christmas (for those of your celebrating). I've had my recent overnight and priority packages taking 5 days to get to me, and I'm not expecting it to improve with Black Friday weekend and Cyber Monday shopping items about to flood the postal service. I don't want to discourage anyone from shopping as there are incredible creations to choose from this month, but I want to make sure you're prepared in case you're shopping for a gift. Now if you're celebrating the 12 days of Christmas, which officially starts on Christmas day, you should be set!

Are you excited for the opening of the December Polish Pickup? What all are you planning to pic up this month? Are you a fan of sugar scrubs? Do you prefer Un-brrr-lievable with a matte or shiny finish? I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!

Simply Earth takes Self Care to the Next Level with November's Bath-Themed Essential Oil Recipe Box

Press Sample and Affiliate Links

I've never really thought of myself as a big essential oil user, but Simply Earth has quickly changed my mind! I was first introduced to the brand this summer with their essential oils and recipes all geared towards face care, and I have been loving these recipe boxes ever since! Since then, I have made soaps, candles, lip balms, pain relief products, and a variety of diffuser blends to suit the changing seasons. This month, Simply Earth has curated a box designed to help you pamper yourself and your loved ones with do-it-yourself bath products.

Each Essential Oils Recipe Box comes with four essential oils and any additional necessities to help you follow along with the recipes created that fit the theme. This month, subscribers will receive the following:

Cinnamon Essential Oil (15mL)
Eucalyptus Essential Oil (15mL)
Lime Essential Oil (15mL)
Tranquility Essential Oil Blend (15mL)
Dried Lavender Flowers (0.1oz)
Powdered Whole Milk (4 Tbsp)
Fillable tea bag

There are six recipes created for the November box, and I enjoyed testing out a few of them.

Tranquility and Lime Diffuser Blend

I can admit that while I was familiar with oil diffusers, I've only recently picked one up. I was intrigued with the Simply Earth diffuser blends and wanted to enjoy the fragrances throughout my house. I actually really enjoy the Tranquility blend on its own, but the addition of the lime is delightful!

Oatmeal & Milk Bath

Soaking in the tub is one of my favorite self-care activities, and regrettably, it os one I never do enough. The Essential Oil Recipe Box already came with the powdered milk, and all I had to do was add oatmeal and baking soda. The recipe calls for the tea bag in the ingredients but the directions have no use for it. This wasn't the first recipe in the box like this. I didn't notice it in the previous boxes, but it does make some of the recipes confusing to follow.

Lime and Eucalyptus Roll On

The Simply Earth Roll On recipes are always so easy to follow and can be made in less than a minute. While I'm not opposed to longer recipes, I love when I get recipes that are super quick! This particular recipe is great because the roll on has an uplifting aroma that can help relieve congestion. With cold and flu season starting up, this is going to be living in my purse!

Eucalyptus Shower Steamers

These shower steamers were teased in last month's box, and this was the recipe I was probably the most excited to be trying. This was another one of those recipes that had a listed ingredient (lavender buds, in this case) but no use for them when it came to the recipe directions. In the end, I opted to toss them in prior to pressing in a silicone mold. After waiting for these to dry, I went to pop them out, and I just ended up with a powdery mess. While I followed the recipe closely, I found the mixture to be very dry. I wasn't surprised the steamers couldn't hold their shape. I was able to salvage the mess by collecting the powder and spritzing in with hazel until I got the texture of wet sand. I then pressed into the molds for them to dry before popping out. The downside of this technique is the witch hazel turned the lavender buds a brown shade. These steamers are fully functional, they just look less attractive. I don't think I'll be following this exact recipe again, although I will definitely continue to use this oil combination in another version!

The last two remaining recipes are for Lavender Buds & Tranquility Milk Bath and Chai Tea Bath Salts. My bag of epsom salts ran away from me and I have to pick up a few additional ingredients for the chai tea bath salts.

The Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box is a subscription service with two subscription options:

The MONTHLY BOX is $39 per month, and you will receive a box every month.

The QUARTERLY BOX is $45 every three months, and you will receive one box every three months.

There is no additional membership fee for subscribing, and you can skip boxes if a particular monthly theme doesn't suit your needs.

If you decide to subscribe for the Essential Oils Recipe Box, feel free to use the code LAUGHLOVECONTOURFREE . This code will get you a $40 gift card with your first purchased subscription box and a free Big Bonus Box. Please note that this code is not a discount off your first box but an incentive for first time subscribers. The value can be applied to your next monthly box or towards individual items offered by Simply Earth. These boxes are fantastic for yourself, and the monthly themes makes these a fun gift for friends and family. The holidays will be here soon, and what better way to show you care than giving a handmade gift!

If you decide you're not in the market for an essential oils box but still want to pick up a few assorted essential oils, please consider using my referral link. I don't have any special discount codes to share for this type of purchase, but using my referral link helps to support my blog so I can keep bringing you the great content you enjoy!

As always, 13% of every purchase at Simply Earth is donated to help stop human trafficking. This month, donations are going to The Daughter Project. The Daughter Project is a modern day abolitionist group rescuing women out of human trafficking. To date, The Daughter Project has directly helped 50 different women and children plus countless more through their speaking and education programs. I love knowing when money generated from my purchases is also doing good; this is just one of so many great things about Simply Earth!

December Essential Oil Recipe Box Sneak Peek

When I first started sharing these Essential Oil Recipe Boxes, I had mentioned the creations would make great gifts, and apparently Simply Earth agrees! The them for the December box is "Gift Giving" and will include recipes for sugar scrub, salve, room spray, lip balm, a Christmas inspired diffuser blend, and a congestion roll-on. Whether you're planning to gift others or just like to treat yourself, this looks to be a fun box. The oils included next month will be Mandarin, Pine Scotch, Peppermint, and Candy Cane Blend.

Are you a DIY crafter? Do you enjoy incorporating essential oils into your every day life? Would you be interested in the Essential Oil Recipe Box, either for yourself or as a gift to your favorite DIY-er? I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!

KBShimmer's all about Rainbows and Sun Showers in the upcoming June Polish Pickup

Press Sample

Happy Taco Tuesday, dear readers! I do have tacos on the mind as I am about to head out for some with my guys, but first, I wanted to get this post up. Let's jump in!

Now that June is here, the next Indie and Polish Pickups are SO CLOSE! In fact, this shop opens this Friday, so thankfully you won't have to wait too long to get the stunning items in this post ordered!

The winning theme for June is Weather, and KBShimmer opted to use this photo as the inspiration for two incredible products being offered this month. This is something brand owner had to say about this photo:

I've never liked rain as much as my husband Jason does, but I do love sun showers. It makes me so happy to see those magical drops of rain still falling as the sun peeks out, becoming tiny prisms that reflect and fill the sky with rainbows.

It was on a recent vacation that Christy snapped this beautiful photo where it inspired a new nail polish and gave Christy the idea to bring back her rainbow-coloured sugar scrub. I have both of these to share with you today, so let's dive on in and get a closer look at both of KBShimmer's offerings!

What Does This Mean?

What Does This Mean? is described as a dusty Caribbean blue nail polish that is loaded with KBShimmer's signature holo glow flakes to emulate the sparkling rain. Red-to-green Aurora shimmer is then added to give this polish a magnificent twist.

For those of you that have forgotten or may not have seen it, the name is derived from a sweet YouTube video by Yosemitebear62 in his excitement about seeing a double rainbow.

I don't know if I have the words for how much I love this polish! I love the base shade, but the way the aurora shimmer shifts from green to pink as you move your fingers is breathtaking.

What Does This Mean? applies easily with two coats for opacity. Under my bright light setup I could see the slightest hint of visible nail line, but under normal lighting and to my eyes, the two coats was plenty. That being said, those that paint with ultra thin coats or have particularly long nails may need to add a third coat. I then used a layer of KBShimmer's Clearly On Top top coat for these photos.

I was mesmerized with my nails in the sun when I went outside to go swimming, so I snapped a quick photo. Look at that sparkle! I love that you can see a little of both the pink and green aurora shift from the shimmers.

What Does This Mean? is equally as stunning under lower lighting! It has its own rainbow effect, and I just had to share it here!

What Does This Mean? will be retailing on the Polish Pickup website for $10; there is no cap on the number of bottles available for purchase.

After The Rain Sugar Scrub

KBShimmer has decided to bring back her rainbow sugar scrub this month! *Cheers* I love the swirls of colours in this scrub. There are seven different colours in this beautiful scrub!

After The Rain is scented with a blend of sweet melons, juicy raspberries, cool lemonade, fresh cracked coconut, and raw sugarcane. If you love fruity fragrances with a hint of the tropics, this scrub is for you! These scents are actually my favorite when it comes to body products, so I am in tropical rainbow heaven with it!

Because this is going to be shipping during the summer, you're going to want to bring this inside as soon as possible and not let it sit in your mailbox. The heat can cause the oils to separate out, although this does not impair the quality of the scrub. Simply scoop a little further down to mix in the oils and you are good to go! As you can see, mine got a little separated and the colours blended together, but the center is still a rainbow swirl.

To use this scrub, scoop out however much product you need, rub in a circular motion on the body, and rinse off with warm water. Because this scrub is so loaded up with sugar, I found a little tends to go a long way. It has worked well to remove the bumpy patches I occasionally get on the backs of my arms, and I will use a small amount on my hands when I need a little exfoliation. While it does smell delicious, you do not want to eat this sugar scrub!

It will also be retailing on the Polish Pickup website for $10, and there is no cap.

I have loved trying out both these products, and I cannot pick my favorite between them. These colours and scents are personal favorites, and these are the best Polish Pickup items from KBShimmer yet! I'm sure I've said that before, and I have no clue how they'll be able to top themselves next time!

The Polish Pickup website is open now for viewing and adding items to wishlists. Items will become available for purchase this Friday, June 7th through Monday, June 10th. Please allow three weeks for shipping as monthly Polish Pickup items are available for pre-order only. These items are exclusive to the Polish Pickup and for this month only, so you don't want to miss out!

Have you put together your Polish Pickup wishlist yet? Are you planning to pick up the polish, sugar scrub, or both? I'd love to hear what you have your eye on this month!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful evening!

KBShimmer for May 2019 Polish and Indie Pickup: The Brite Stuff and Popping Bath Powder

Press Sample

Happy Friday, dear readers! I don't know about you, but I am SO GLAD today is Friday! It's not that I have anything special planned for tonight or this weekend; yesterday was just such a bad day. No one major negative thing happened, for that I am grateful; rather, it was a series of bad little things: my youngest causing trouble at school, disappointing my older one due to miscommunication about an event at his school, my youngest in even more trouble at his school, my oldest having signs of an ear infection..... and let's not even get into just how crappy it is to be stabbed by a security tag that fell off while trying on a bra. I may not have the power to have a total do over for the day, but I have today to hopefully look forward to. I'm totally down for a boring and uneventful day! Now on to today's blog post!

This month has flown by at an incredible speed, and May is upon us already! Next week sees the opening of the Indie and Polish Pickups. I have the goodies being offered by KBShimmer to share with you! May's theme is the 1980's and I had no doubt Christy would come up with something fun for us. As a fellow child of the 80's, she often reminds me of things I had forgotten about; her offerings for the Pickups were no exception to the rule. Let's check them out!

The Brite Stuff

As a kid, I loved colorful toys. I wanted the pony with rainbow hair, Cheer Bear with his colorful tummy, and of course, Rainbow Brite! Rainbow Brite helped the Color Kids spread color throughout the world with color crystals and star sprinkles. The Brite Stuff was inspired by the colorful Rainbow Brite. A bright blue thermal base sets off a rainbow of small glitters which really pop when the base turns a lighter blue, and then white, with heat. Each bottle will come with a bag of star sprinkles so that you, too, can help bring color to the world!

Warm state

Cold State

I'm sure I've mentioned before in blog posts featuring thermal nail polishes that I throw out a lot of heat, so it's pretty unusual for me to see cooler states other than occasionally my tips. The Brite Stuff actually goes into a deeper blue hue, but I could not keep the temperature on my nails low enough while I tried to snap a photo. I'm sure I'm not the only one that experiences this so this light blue may be the most blue others like me get to experience most of the time.

I had so much fun wearing this polish; it certainly reminds me of Rainbow Brite! I love how the glitters are subdued while in the blue state but then really pop when in the warm white state. I also like that the glitter combination is limited to smaller hexagon shapes in the polish itself, but I can still add in as few or as many star glitters on top. The Brite Stuff applied easily with three coats to opacity. Once I placed the star glitters, I topped my nails off with two coats of KBShimmer's Clearly On Top top coat.

The Brite Stuff will retail for $10 and there is no cap to the number of bottles made available for purchase.

Wacky Watermelon Popping Bath Powder

When I first had Pop Rocks as a kid, I was blown away. That sweet yet tart flavor and fun popping experience in your mouth made for one amazing treat! Our Popping Bath Powder is inspired by Pop Rocks. We started with pure luxurious cocoa butter and then added moisturizing coconut milk powder for a silky, skin-softening soak. Using the provided scoop, add to water and listen to the magic popping sound while the cocoa butter melts into the warm water. The sweet and tart watermelon fragrance scents the inviting foam just waiting to moisturize your skin! Use 1-2 scoops as a hand or foot soak, or add 3-4 scoops from the 9.5 oz bag for a decadent bath. Does not contain Pop Rocks candy.

I loved Pop Rocks when I was younger, and I even had a cat that was obsessed with them. I discovered one day that if I left my Pop Rocks pouch open or if a piece fell on the floor and I didn't pick it up quickly, he would swoop in and steal it away. It was the only thing I even saw him have such a response to, and he just seemed to really enjoy picking up a piece, letting it pop in his mouth, and spitting it out before repeating all over again. I don't think Pop Rocks are the best thing for our feline friends so I tried to be careful to hide them from him although he was a sneaky cat and still found a way. Now on to the bath powder!

This popping bath powder is so much fun! Once it hits the water, it starts to fizz up and make popping sounds right away. The smell is so good as well! I love watermelon scents, but often find many to be too sweet for my liking. Wacky Watermelon, on the other hand, is a delightful balance of tart plus sweet. It definitely captures the essence of Pop Rocks, all without containing Pop Rocks themselves. I'm also glad about that fact for two reasons: adding actual Pop Rocks would likely end up having to increase the price and I really don't want sugary large POPPING candy pieces doing its thing next to my, ahem, girly parts in the tub. This bath powder is rather fine, and while there is some popping, it is much more subtle and not likely to cause an issue on sensitive bits. That being said, a quick rinse of fwith clean water after any bath product like this is often a good idea and it may still be too much for those with ultra sensitive skin.

I also appreciate that this product comes with its own scoop enclosed in the pouch. I'm less likely to use a bath or shower product that requires me to go back downstairs to get a measuring device out of the kitchen. I'm just not too keen on taking the "dump it out" approach as I don't like to waste product and I want to be sure to use enough to get the proper experience.

The Popping Bath Powder will retail for $10 per 9.5oz bag. There is currently no limit to the number of units made available for purchase.

The Brite Stuff and Popping Bath Powder will be available for purchase on The Pickups website on Friday, May 3rd through Monday, May 6th. They will only be available during this limited time so be sure to mark your calendars so you don't miss out!

Please keep in mind that all orders place through the Pickups are placed as a preorder. Orders can take up to three weeks to shipping out to customers.

Are you excited about the 1980's theme next month? Are you more interested in the nail polish, the popping bath powder, or are you interested in them both equally? I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!

Daily Concepts Exfoliating Body Scrubber

Press Sample

We are here to change the world, your world, one shower at a time!

As you already know, I've been doing a little bit of traveling recently. In spite of being a beauty blogger that just has to have my skin care and cosmetic items with me, I still like to travel light. Hotels are great when it comes to having some of the basics on hand, but one item I like to bring from home that takes up virtually no space is an exfoliating body scrubber from Daily Concepts.

We can't always control what happens in life but we can control our reaction... and most of the times we find that a shower or a bath will lead us to the solution.

The Exfoliating Body Scrubber comes in a plastic pouch. Simply rip open, pull it out, and start up that lather! I've been using the "mild" version which has an overall smooth texture. The outer material is made up of terry cloth and contains a sponge-like center.

One of my favorite features about Daily Concepts scrubber is the label. The text on the labels utilizes Daily Concepts' patented fading smart technology and fades over time. Once the label has faded, you know it is time to discard your scrubber and get a new one. This way you can use your scrubber and not have to worry about when it is time to throw it away for sanitary purposes. Prior to the introduction of Daily Concepts into my life, I was a loofah girl, and I was always on the fence about when I should throw them away. Add to that trying to remember when I bought it! The fading technology makes my life so much easier and one less thing to have to keep track of in my daily life.

While this is referred to as a scrubber, the exfoliation of the mild version is, well, mild. While my skin is sensitive, I can still easily use my scrubber every day and not have it be too harsh for me.

The label fades after approximately 90 uses. Retailing for only $5, it's super affordable and gives the perfect touch of home comfort to my showers!

Have you tried any products from Daily Concepts? If so, what are your favorites? I'd love to hear from you!
