KBShimmer Brings Back Pimp My Pride for a Limited Time

Press Sample

Happy Monday, dear readers! I can't believe that June is almost over and this is a holiday weekend! I've not had the energy to do any nail art lately, but I have been able to get my nails ready thanks to KBShimmer's Pimp My Pride!

This polish was originally released in 2013 and had been retired, but brand owner Christy Rose opted to bring it back for a limited time with their new updated packaging.

Pimp My Pride is a white based polish filled with metallic red and blue glitters. The glitters are hexagon shaped as well as thin, short bars.

This polish applies easily, although you may have to push a glitter back up onto your nails or pull them off as they can sometimes hang over the nail bed. I used three coats to reach full opacity and topped my nails off with two coats of KBShimmer's Clearly on Top Quick Dry Top Coat for a smoother finish.

This polish is only available for a limited time, so be sure to snag this beauty before it is no longer available!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
XO!

Endless Knot Nail Art with Zoya Calm Collection

Press Sample

Greetings, dear readers; I hope this post find you well! It's been a little crazy around here, but now I can officially cross virtual schooling off the list. Yesterday was the last day of school here, and while I'm still going to use some programs to keep the summer slide minimal, it is nice to no longer *have* to stay on top of a workload each day. Here is hoping my sanity holds up now that it is officially summer, when the days are already feeling endless!

Speaking of endless, I was feeling inspired by the Zoya Calm Collection and wanted to enjoy some nail art. It's no secret that the world has become rather strange lately as we deal with the Coronavirus pandemic, and it has left me thinking a lot about not just those that have died, but my friends that are expecting (one little boy was born yesterday). It got me thinking about Samsāra, the buddhist cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The cycle itself is supposed to be unpleasant and filled with suffering, and the only way to break the cycle is through meditation. Whether or not you are Buddhist or believe in karmic rebirth or reincarnation like some other beliefs, I do think any sort of meditation that gives insightfulness is helpful. I opted to create a simple nail art look featuring an endless knot. I hope you enjoy it!

I created this easy look by painting my nails with the shade Laura. I then randomly dry brushed Leif, Vee and Emerson onto my nails.

Once my base was dry, I used Total Eclipse by KBShimmer with the endless knot pattern on MoYou London's Asia 02 stamping plate to stamp on to my nails. I then topped my nails with KBShimmer's Free & Clear top coat for a shiny finish.

I hope you've enjoyed today's quick nail art post!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day and enjoy a (hopefully) long holiday weekend!
XO!

May the Fourth Be With You Nails: KBShimmer Beach Break Collection

Happy Monday, dear readers, and more importantly, happy Star Wars day! It's been a few years since I have had my nails ready for May 4th as I've been traveling to New York City for The Makeup Show the past few years. That definitely has not happened this year, and since I was home all weekend, I couldn't resist the urge to get my nail art on and participate in the holiday.

As you've seen mentioned here on the blog, I've been really sick for the past month and a half, and that has kept me from doing some nail swatching. I had received the Beach Break Collection by KBShimmer just as I was getting ill, and it has been sitting unloved for far too long. I really wanted to give my bottles some love and thought they would give a fun spin on my typical Star Wars-inspired nails. Often, my Star Wars nails are on the darker side, and no, I don't mean in support of the Empire! The colours tend to fall on the darker side of the colour spectrum, so this gave me the opportunity to create a look that was brighter and more fitting for this time of year in general. While it's not what I normally would wear for today, I'm actually digging this look!

I used the following KBShimmer shades to create this look:

I also used assorted Star Wars-inspired nail decals from YouPolish and Toadarrific Vinyls. I then topped my nails off with KBShimmer's Free & Clear top coat. It's a little hot here and with my ac going, I had a little bit of bubbling once I added on my top coat. I'm going to have to be more careful in the future as it's only getting hotter around here for the next four months! It's nice having nail art on my fingers again!

Are you doing anything special today to celebrate Star Wars day? I think we're going to watch one of the movies later today when the hubby is home from work and my oldest is done with all his virtual schooling!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
XO!

Gem Show Ready Nails with KBShimmer

Greetings, dear readers! This is the last stretch of the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, and I couldn't let the opportunity go by without a little nail art. Now that I'm back in Arizona, I'm hoping to go this weekend; I don't think I have the words to express how excited I am about it! I've not really said much about it on the blog, but I'm a rock nerd, and I look forward to this event every year. When we lived in Tucson several years ago, my husband and I would visit many of the individual  shows set up throughout town and definitely have our favorites. Now that I'm 100 miles away, I only go to the big event at the convention center. Maybe when the kids are older I'll just stay a night or two (if I can get a hotel room- they go FAST this time of year) so I can see even more of the shows.

What could be better for a gem show than gem-inspired nails? I have KBShimmer's new white and black cream polishes to try out (White Here White Now and Total Eclipse respectively), and I opted to give them some love along with other KBShimmer shades for my gemstone nails. I started out with White Here White Now for my base, so let's get a quick look at this polish by itself first.

Press Sample

White polishes are notorious for being difficult to apply. I often find them to be patchy and uneven, requiring multiple coats to get a relatively smooth working surface. I am happy to repot that was NOT the case with this baby! The application was surprisingly smooth and I was able to get full coverage with just a single coat without any extra fussing about!

Please pardon the photos as white polishes look a little harsh on my by themselves in the first place and then they really mess with my camera. White Here White Now is a stark white shade. The shade also uses KBShimmer's new curved fan brush, making it even easier to get your self-leveled manicure.

I've also topped my nails with Free & Clear Quick Dry Top Coat for these photos.

Now let's get a look at my gem show-ready nails!

Jewel tones are my favorite, and I just had to include a few shades to create this look!

I used KBShimmer's Total Eclipse with a stamping plate from Born Pretty Store (direct link to L089) for the gems. I then filled them in with Under Cover, Vested Interest, and If You've Got It, Haunt It!, all by KBShimmer. These shades definitely gave me the sparkle I had in mind for this manicure! After topping it off with Free and & Clear Top Coat, I'm all set and ready to take in all the sparkly sights!

How has your week be going? Do you have special plans for Valentines Day tomorrow? My hubby doesn't like to celebrate, although I think we're going out for lunch.

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
XO!

Written In the Stars with KBShimmer and the Polish Pickup

Happy New Year, dear readers! Here's to a new and healthy year ahead! 2019 ended on a rough note with me enjoying the flu for the holiday season; needless to say, I'm really looking forward to a more positive month and year ahead!

Press Sample

A new month means another Polish Pickup is upon us! The theme for January is "Written in the Stars", and for today's blog post, I have the offerings by KBShimmerto share with you. Let's jump in!

Astronaut Ice Cream
Sugar Scrub

As a child in the 80’s, space was on the forefront of a lot of minds. We had space shuttles heading into orbit, popular movies like Star Wars and Space Camp, and two space centers allowed us to get up close and personal with NASA. My personal favorite from the space center visit? A bar of Astronaut Ice Cream. That freeze-dried bar sparked my imagination and made me feel like I, too, could walk on the moon!

Inspired by that bar of freeze-dried Neapolitan ice cream, Astronaut Ice Cream sugar scrub features three layers, each with its own scent. The classic strawberry, vanilla and chocolate flavors are represented by the pink, cream, and brown-colored layers. Use each layer individually, or stir them to form a juicy, chocolate-covered berry scent.

I'm a fan of KBShimmer's sugar scrubs, so I'm glad to see another scent join the brand lineup! I've decided to mix mine together as I love chocolatey scents although I love the look of it with all the individual colours.

Due to the extra time needed to make this particular scrub (mixing multiple scents and layering), this has been capped to 135 jars.

Retail: $10

I Need Space
Magnetic Nail Polish

Looking up at the sky, I feel such a sense of wonder. That deepened black canvas seems to be endless. A splattering of twinkling stars and streaking comets just make me wonder how much more there is out there beyond the Milky Way. I Need Space is inspired by stunning photos of our galaxy from earth, with that hazy band of stars and deepened sky.

I Need Space starts as a silver slate. When you apply a magnet, a bright silver line accents a blackened-navy background. Micro and small holo glitters sparkle like the night sky, while tiny, shifty blue flakes complete this galaxy-inspired shade.

This polish is a stunner no matter how you choose to wear it. Sure, adding in the magnetic effect makes this shade out of this world, but the simple deep silver hue with subtle sparkle is quite spectacular as well. Magnetic nail polishes are the best at two-for-one polishes!

I used two coats of I Need Space for full coverage. The formula is a little on the thicker side, but this is par for the course with magnetic polishes, and it still applied pretty easily to the nails.

Retail: $10

The January Polish Pickup will be open this Friday, January 3rd through Monday, January 6th. These products are available during this time frame only, so be sure to snag them while you can! With the sugar scrub being limited in quantity, you'll want to pick up one of those asap so you don't miss out. Please keep in mind that orders submitted to the Polish Pickup are submitted as a preorder; allow for three weeks for shipping from Polish Pickup headquarters.

Are you enjoying the start to a new year and decade? Are you going to be starting the decade out of this world with this month's Polish Pickup? Cheers to the new year, dear readers!
