Stardust Inspired Nails

Good morning, dear readers, and happy hump day! With the husband being off some this week and my pre-schooler not having school, I am having the worst time keeping track of what day it is! I'm glad everyone is getting some much needed time off for a break, except yours truly, of course, but I have to admit I am looking forward to next week and the full return of normal routines! Anyone else feeling this way, or is it all me? Let me get in on today's blog post before I ramble your ears....eyes? off!

Like many others, I am a fan of Netflix. It's been great to introduce me to new movies and shows, and I love that there are educational programs that I can put on for the kids should I need a little time to get work done uninterrupted. That, by the way, is still a joke because I always get interrupted no matter how entertained they are with programs. Ha! Anyway, I often wait for the official list of what is leaving Netflix so I can get one last watch in before they are gone. January 1st saw the removal of my beloved Stardust, a film based on Neil Gaiman's book of the same name. In fact, Stardust inspired my 3rd blogiversary custom, Cast From Stormhold! I naturally had to watch the movie one last time (on Netflix, anyway), and it inspired today's nail art.

There are so many amazing scenes in the film to be inspired by, and I pulled a few different elements for this design. There is the more obvious star in the sky looking down onto the world, watching the events in the real world over one side of the wall. I always wanted to capture the idea of a falling star (hence the drop in the star pattern across the two fingers), and I wanted an emphasis on the glowing heart (my crystal centers). I also wanted to incorporate the idea of a star being whole in the magical world and turning to rock and stardust on the real world on the other side of the wall. There were A LOT of different elements in my mind, and this is the design I came up with that I felt best covered them, albeit loosely.

I don't know about you, but knowing the complexity of thought that went into this seemingly simplistic design is going to make me look even more closely at nail art from now on!

To create this look, I used Joy Lacquer Immaculate Reception and Pretty & Polished Tinsel Hockey. I used the Twister stencils from ViNailicious to create my "falling star" and the Mosaic Stained Glass stencils from You Polish for the shattered star or "stardust". I added silver star water decals (unknown origin as  they are unlabeled and I was gifted these), silver striping tape I picked up on eBay long ago, and purple jewel studs from a Bundle Monster set. I then sealed everything in with HK Girl top coat from Glisten & Glow.

For the final look being so simple, this may be my most complex nail art design based on steps and product assortment yet! From stencils to water decals, from striping tape to studs, I don't think I've used so many different elements in one look before! It was a lot of fun for me to design and create, and I'm pretty happy with the final look.
