Trying out the new ColourPop Just My Luck Eyeshadow Palette

Greetings, dear readers! I hope you have been having a wonderful week and have something to look forward to this weekend! For today's blog post, I wanted to share a couple looks I have created with the ColourPop Cosmetics Just My Luck eyeshadow palette and share some thoughts on it.

The Just My Luck palette was revealed earlier this month, and customers were able to order it and have it arrive in time for all the St. Patrick's Day makeup looks. I've not kept it a secret on my blog that ColourPop and I don't consistently work well together, and I'll probably never really know if it's my personal body chemistry or my preferred skincare routine that makes me not as impressed with the brand as many seem to be. In spite of that, as a big fan of green eyeshadows and sadly not many in my collection, I had to pick up this palette at launch! Besides, at only $12, I wasn't exactly breaking the bank if I ended up not liking the palette. Going into this, I figured worst case scenario I could use a mixing medium and convert these into eyeliners. I do, after all, love a good green eyeliner!

Makeup fans have been asking for an all green eyeshadow palette, and ColourPop certainly stepped up to give consumers what they wanted. With a range of soft, cool toned greens to majestic olives to a vibrant lime, this palette is made for a green lover! There has been some question about their "avoiding the browns" with this palette as one shade does appear to be brown, but it is actually a rich olive shade. Because I already have an olive complexion, it does look more brown on me, but a quick swipe on my cooler, pinker toned husband showed me it really does have a subtle touch of green. I have been playing around with this palette since it's arrival at my house and wanted to share two looks I have created with it. Let's check them out!

For this eye look, I used the far right column on my eyes: 50-50, Olive U and Charmed. I also popped the centermost shade, Mary Jane into the inner corners of my eyes.

This is a quick and easy look to put together, and it really works well with my olive skin tone if I may say! Olive U and Mary Jane applied the best in this set, yielding nice smooth coverage. 50-50 was a touch spotty for me, but you have to look so uncomfortably close to the eyes to even notice so my call on the shade is the ever-so-slight patchiness is negligible. Charmed, on the other hand, did not want to blend out as smoothly as I would have liked. I don't find it to be noticeable with this combination when speaking with others at a comfortable distance, but I could foresee it being an issue if you opt to use Charmed as a dominant shade in your eye looks.

In addition to my more golden olive look, I have a cooler, brighter eyeshadow look to share with you. Check it out below!

This eye look uses most of the shades from the left and center columns from the palette: Chances Are..., Big Banks, Act Natural, Kiss My Hass and Mary Jane.

Of the shades I used for this eye look, Act Natural was the only one that really disappointed me. While I found Charmed to have some blending issues in my previous eye look, I found Act Natural to be even harder to blend out. It was the first shade I used when starting my eye look here, and I found that when I applied Chances Are..., the soft pale green, it made the latter harder to blend out in areas that touched Act natural. On the inner corner of my eye where I applied Chances Are..., the blending was much smoother. It may be anecdotal, but my experience with Act Natural tells me it doesn't play well by itself and is temperamental if asked to play well with others. It isn't impossible, as I found my final eye look to be pretty nice overall, but it does require a little bit of patience and building up. Adding in Big Banks and Kiss My Hass really saved this look for me! Because I personally find all cool colours to look a little odd on my warm skintone, I added in the smallest touches of the warm Mary Jane to my inner corner and the bottom of the center of my lid to complete my look.

I have really enjoyed playing with this eyeshadow palette, and I am so glad I opted to pick it up in spite of my reservations with ColourPop products! I found the darker matte shades in particular to be a little tricky to work with, but it is hard to say if that is due to the eyeshadows specifically or if my preferred eye primer contributed to the blending issues I experienced. They may also not have liked my eyeshadow brushes and may work better with something different. I'm still going to continue to use this palette, including the shades that were a little harder to work with, as I just love the colours, and at the end of the day, I felt great with my eye looks I created! If you are looking for a very affordable eyeshadow palette in a range of green shades, I definitely recommend this palette!

I have also created a fun look for festival season with this palette, and I'll be posting it up on the blog soon!

Are you a fan of green eyeshadows? Have you picked up the Just My Luck palette? Which of my looks do you prefer: the first olive design or the last cooler green look? I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
XO!!

  1. Love the second greener look and your eyes with falsies are amazing. I can't put them on to save my life but they look sexy on you. I've had ups and downs with Colorpop and just figured they aren't made for the more "mature" set.

  2. You are rockin’ those greens! I think this is a very pretty green palette. If I hadn’t bought Huda Emerald Obsessions, I would have bought this - but this one wasn’t out yet. There are more greens in this palette than Emerald.
