Greetings, dear readers, and happy hump day! I hope you've been having a wonderful week thus far and have something to look forward this upcoming holiday weekend! We're currently in our third week of virtual schooling, and honestly I am just looking forward to a day of not having to worry about it. My second grader is a good student and handling it well, but it's been a rough experience for my kindergartener. It's not the ideal way to introduce a child to school in the first place, and my youngest is my difficult and stubborn one to boot; this momma just may be bald from tearing her hair out by the time school starts again in person! That being said, he does seem to be getting better about retrieving the correct workbook and doing some work when asked. I may not be able to get much work done during schooling hours, but I keep reminding myself that this time will end up only being a little blip in their schooling and in my life. Now that I've rambled on, let me get to this post!

If you've been following along here on the blog or on Instagram, you already know that I love my Doubledown Cosmetics products! This black-owned brand is run by an enchanting husband and wife duo, and each of their releases have such a powerful meaning.

The latest collection is the Ancestral Collection, Volume 1, and this collection is all about the colour red with a pop of gold due to the highlighter. Let's get a closer look at the shades!

The Fortune - The Fierce - The Find - The Force

The Fortune: golden yellow loose highlighter
The Fierce: pearlescent ruby red loose eyeshadow
The Find: pearlescent mauve-red loose eyeshadow
The Force: tan- red loose eyeshadow

This is such a great collection for those that have a difficult time finding their perfect shades of red! Some days I want a pinker red or I want a more muted red, and I used to have to mix eyeshadows to try to get the colour I wanted. This collection makes it so easy to have the exact red shade you want, and pairing them together in a red eye look gives just the right amount of variation to give dimension. As for the golden highlighter, I am in love with this shade! The colour is beautiful, and the glow is just stunning!

Here's my look I created using all the shades in this collection!

I don't wear all red eye looks very often, but I really need to change that! I'm digging this combination, and the reds pair so perfectly with this highligher!

It's pretty uncommon for me to use just a single wash of colour on my eyes, even if I am going for a monochromatic look. My husband may look at me and say "it's all the same",  but I can definitely see a difference when I compare areas of my eyes! In addition to the reds of the Ancestral Collection, I used The Remote, a loose brown eyeshadow also by Doubledown Cosmetics, to softly line my eyes.

Seriously, what is NOT to love about The Fortune highlighter? The finish is absolutely beautiful, and I keep grabbing it to wear with many of my looks!

The Fortune - The Fierce - The Find - The Force

The Ancestral Collection, Vol 1 is available for purchase now on the Doubledown Cosmetics website. The eyeshadows retail for $12 each and the highlighter is $22. Alternately, you can purchase the entire four piece collection as a bundle for $56!

It's difficult to say which of the shades in this collection are "must haves" as ultimately it depends on the colours you like to wear. I personally like having all three red shades to add more depth to my eye looks, and the highlighter is certainly a must have for me! All four products have great pigmentation and apply easily, so you really can't go wrong with any of them!

Have you already picked up any of these products? If so, which are your favorites? If not, what do you have your eye on?

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
XO!

  1. I'm loving The Fortune (the highlights), so pretty and so much product too! I feel the shadows are all very similar, where I would only need one since I don't wear this shade all that often. I need to check out Doubledown Cosmetics!

  2. Cape Verde is a beautiful place to be. It was part of a cruise that my husband and I went on and we fell in love with it. These colors are very pretty but it's hard to wear an eye that red.
I am so torn about this school year. For safety's sake it's important to do the home schooling, but it's just so difficult for the youngest ones. My youngest is starting first grade which is such a milestone year and I worry about her. Your son will get there but it's going to be a team effort.
