CPNA Beauty: Hot Tresses Rehab Shampoo, Conditioner, and Leave-In Treatment

Press Sample

Greetings, dear readers! I hope you've had a wonderful week! For this evening's blog post, I have a collection of products I brought home with me from the last Cosmoprof North America show! I know, it seems like the show was so long ago, and I'm a little ashamed it has taken me this long to share this. During the chaos of the wildfires around here over the fall and me trying to get essentials packed into a suitcase for evacuation, I ended up having a box containing some products disappear in my work room and only recently came across it while sorting other things. While it was certainly a stressful time for my family, I still should have been a little better staying on top of it, but I hope you can forgive me as I share things now!

For today's post, I wanted to share with you the travel set by Hot Tresses. You can purchase these products individually in larger sizes, but this was a great option to try out what the brand has to offer! Based in Australian, Hot Tresses is a brand that is cruelty-free and sells products that are free of parabens, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances. Utilizing organic botanical ingredients, Hot Tresses products are designed to be deeply absorbed by your hair to heal and repair, boost strength, stimulate growth, hydrate, and smooth frizz.

The travel set consists of three products: the Sulfate-Free Rehab Shampoo, Intensive + Hydrating Rehab Conditioner, and the Moisturizing Rehab Leave-In.

Because the brand focuses so strongly on treating your hair right, they even have included these images on the product bottles to encourage users to break free from the damaging heat styling and cutting toxic chemicals all while still cutting frizz out of your daily life. Needless to say this is a brand with a stance that I can support. But there is a big BUT coming.....

I've used all three of these products. Because the travel size tubes are smaller than the bottles that can be purchased individually (1.4oz), I only got a few uses out of these tubes. To fully test these out on my hair, I wanted to use only these products during my trial so I could say whether or not they felt sufficient at cleaning my hair, keeping it hydrated, and keeping the frizz under control as ideally, you would not be using heating tools with your hair. After a two uses of the shampoo and conditioner, I discovered I am either allergic to or extremely sensitive to at least one of the ingredients in these products. My scalp developed painful sores and I had to discontinue their use. While the skin on my face is very sensitive, my scalp generally is not, and this was a very unusual situation for me. I'm extremely disappointed to have to share this information as I went into the testing process wanting to like the products, even if I try to stay neutral until after testing.

I suppose the next question would be: do they work? It's a little difficult to say with certainty about the shampoo and conditioner as I only got two uses with them. My hair certainly felt clean and did not feel as if it were harshly stripped after use. My hair has a natural wave, particularly when left to air dry, and I didn't have any issues with frizz.

In spite of my problem with the shampoo and/or conditioner (I did not test them separately, and after my experience, I really don't want to attempt it), I still wanted to give the Rehab Leave-In a fair trial. After giving my scalp time to heal and to mentally prepare myself for the possibility of a repeat situation with the Leave-In, I am happy to report I was able to use the treatment without any issues! I don't know if it's because the ingredients are in differing quantities, or, most likely, the Rehab Leave-In specifically directs you to focus on your hair ends and avoiding the scalp as much as possible so I wasn't exposing it to any allergens. Whatever the case, I actually really enjoyed trying out the Rehab Leave-In. The bottle suggests leaving your hair to air dry after use, and I did just that. As I mentioned before, my hair has a slight natural wave, but after using the Rehab Leave-In, I could scrunch up my hair and it dried to a softly curled look. My hair felt incredibly soft and looked so healthy after using it!

Sulfate-Free Rehab Shampoo

Intensive + Hydrating Rehab Conditioner

Moisturizing Rehab Leave-In

I guess this leaves me wondering where I stand on these products. The shampoo and conditioner are obviously a no-go for me, but I hesitate to suggest others avoid them due to my own personal allergic reaction. I did not have this problem with the treatment, and I have actually used my bottle and plan to pick up another one to incorporate into my hair care routine. My testing experience does go to prove a point I have believe I have mentioned here before- natural isn't always better. Of course I would recommend staying away from toxic chemicals, but you do have to keep in mind that people can also have issues with natural ingredients. Obviously, if you already know you are sensitive to any of the ingredients, it would be best to avoid these, but if you aren't and want a cruelty-free natural product, I think they are definitely worth testing out. Other than my allergic reaction, these products did perform nicely for me. I'm actually a little bummed I can't continue to use the shampoo and conditioner! Thankfully there is still the Rehab Leave-In for me to enjoy!

Have you tried any products by Hot Tresses? I'd love to hear how these worked for you!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful evening!
XO!

  2. I haven’t heard of this brand and currently only use products designed for fantasy hair color, but the leave in treatment sounds really nice.

  3. It does sound like you had an allergic reaction. I totally understand you can't really comment for people who aren't allergic to an ingredient in it because unfortunately that's not your experience. Do you think you might be more sensitive to chemicals and such from the overabundance dumped in your area from the fire? I know there has to be SO much crap in the air that your bodies are trying to process.

  4. I totally agree that natural isn't always better. Allergies come in all forms.

  5. Bummer that you were allergic. Travel size products are great for testing out allergies, but a drag to testing to see if the product actually works.

  10. What a shame. I think they have a great name and it sounds like the Rehab Leave-In is great but it's upsetting to end up with sores like that.

  11. Sorry you had a reaction to these! I like the damaged hair images on the front of the tube, because that's what my actual hair looks like. :X

  12. I was thinking this sounds like something I need to try until I read about your bad experience. My hair is dry and brittle now that I've turned 40 and nothing I try seems to help.
