The Throwback Collection: The Return of KBShimmer Nail Polish Favorites

Press Sample

This month marks the 10 year anniversary of indie brand KBShimmer being in business. It is a HUGE deal, especially when I have seen so many indie brands comes and go throughout the years, and it is so wonderful to see the brand going strong! One of the ways the brand is celebrating is by releasing The Throwback Collection, an 8-piece collection filled with fan favorites from 2012 and 2013. For today's post, I have five of The Throwback Collection shades to share with you. Let's check them out!

Teal Another Tail
Two coats plus Clearly on Top top coat

Original release: 2013

Teal Another Tail is a dusty teal green polish with a strong pink almost duo-chrome shimmer. A color I imagine would be on a mermaid's tail. Micro holographic glitters add a bit of shine. This polish can be worn without top coat for an almost velvet look, or apply top coat to bring out the shimmer. Best in 2-3 coats.

You have no idea how excited I was to learn this shade was going to be returning to the KBShimmer lineup! I missed out on it when it was released, and it has been arguably my biggest nail polish regret ever since. I just love the colour combination, and the KBShimmer formula is perfection!

No Whine Left
Two coats plus Clearly on Top top coat

Original release: 2012

A deep plum, almost burgundy wine color, this polish is loaded with blue, aqua, fuchsia, and purple hex glitters in several sizes. The glitters in this polish seem to pop out in different lights, adding a fun depth to it. This polish is more of a "crelly", a cream with jelly properties.

I moved to wine country since the original No Whine Left was released, and I'm happy to see it join the Throwback Collection! The blues pop so perfectly against the plum background. KBShimmer has really nailed the crelly formula, and I have no issues to report.

Of course this needed a layer of top coat:

Shipwreck
Two coats plus Clearly on Top top coat

Original release: 2012

Ships lost at sea, churning waters, mythical creatures and lost treasures inspired this polish. I started with a base of a deep blue green color. Then, added several sizes of hex glitters in teals, blues, greens, and purple. I can almost see these colors being on a beautiful mermaid. A hint of gold, and a pop of copper sparkle like a hidden treasure add depth to this polish.

Shipwreck has always been one of my favorite KBShimmer shades, and I am so happy to see it come back for those that may have missed it. The colour combination is fantastic, with the pops of copper really completing the look. I still have a little visible nail line showing with the two coats I used here, but I quite like it like this. Great formula as well!

Elle
Two coats plus Clearly on Top top coat

Original release: 2012

The circus, full of fun, color, and a wonder for people of all ages. Lions, tigers, and elephants! Elle is our nail polish elephant from our 2012 Circus Collection. A pale grey jelly color, we added several pink glitters, white and grey glitters for a polish that is soft and beautiful.

There was a time when I avoided grey nail polish since it isn't the most flattering on me, and as a result, I missed out on Elle the first time around. Grey and pink is such a perfect colour combination, and I really love this one! Some of the grey and white glitters wanted to clump together, but the brush separated them pretty easily with a little work.

As pretty as Elle is shiny, I especially love it with a matte finish. Check it out!

Plus Oh Matte! top coat

Band Geek
Two coats plus Clearly on Top top coat

Original release: 2012

In high school, kids tend to divide into like-minded groups. This polish is part of the collection based on high school cliques. I admit it, I was a band geek. I played the flute, all jokes aside, band was a great time. This polish is an ode to the band geeks of the world. Black jelly base to represent the oboe and clarinet, several sizes of silver, copper, and gold to capture the flutes, horns, drums, and thr est of the band.

Black glittery polishes have a special place in my heart no matter what time of year, but I do seem to gravitate more towards them when the weather starts to cool down. Luckily, KBShimmer is reintroducing us to Band Geek in time for the fall. With an easy application, what is there not to love about this beauty! The only thing that could possibly make this polish better is adding in a matte finish......

Plus Oh Matte! top coat

The Throwback Collection will be launching on Wednesday, August 15th at midnight. Each of these polishes will retail for $10 per bottle.

What shades are you most excited to see available? Do you prefer the shiny or matte finish? I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
XO!

  3. I wasn't buying indie polishes in 2012 so I never saw these before. My favorite is the mermaid tail one. I love that pink over the teal.
