China Glaze: The Grinch Collaboration

Thanksgiving has come and gone already! I know we have another month to go yet, but with my upcoming move only a few weeks away, I cannot help but wonder where 2018 has gone! It certainly feels like an eventful one, and being in the midst of holiday season, I couldn’t think of a better collection to suit my mood than the new China Glaze The Grinch Collaboration Collection!

Try as I may, the stress of the holidays compacted with relocating back to Arizona has tempered my holiday spirit, and I have been starting to feel a little Grinchy myself. Thankfully, The Grinch Collection has come at the time when I need it most and serves as a reminder that the holidays aren’t about the decorations or presents or even the food. It’s about being with loved ones and that is definitely something I still have going for me. Without further ado, let’s get a closer look at the polishes in this collection.

Grinchworthy

If there was ever a polish to be described as Grinchworthy, this nail lacquer certainly would be it! Not only did China Glaze nail it with the colour, the glitter composition gives a slight texture plus added illusion of dimension. I know this isn’t a colour that everyone enjoys, but I find Grinchworthy to be a standout from this collection and a shade I hope you would consider, even if greens aren’t your normal jam. Application was easy without issues, and I believe those with shorter nails or who paint with thicker coats may even find this to be a single coater with careful application.

Ho! Ho! No!

Ho! Ho! No! is another standout from this collection for me. The subtle pops of golden sparkle against the rich red base are truly glorious and add just that touch of something extra to already sexy red nails. Like the previous nail lacquer, it is densely pigmented and could potentially be a single coater with a thicker application or if you have short nails. Add to the colour the name, and I am sold!

It would feel wrong for China Glaze to release a holiday collection without a glitter bomb, and Resting Grinch Face is their take on it this season. As shown above, you can reach opacity but applying as a normal polish with just three coats, although there is always the option of sponging it on instead if that is your preference. I have also shown it over a black cream so you can get a better sense of how dense the glitters are in a single coat. Ether way is pretty, so that’s just a matter of personal preference. If you opt to just all out with just this alone without a base shade, you likely will find a second coat of top coat is necessary for a smooth finish on the nails.

Who Wonder

Who Wonder is another great addition to this collection! I’m feeling a little like a broken record with this post, but I feel like China Glaze totally nailed the inspiration as I can envision Cindy Lou Who when I look at this. It is also a welcome break from the darker fall nail shades and as some dazzle! It applied nicely to my nails without issue although it isn’t quite as densely pigmented as some of the others in this post: I definitely needed the two coats for opacity and don’t expect this to cover in one coat over average sized nails.

Merry Whatever

Merry Whatever was a surprising favorite for me. Even though yellow gold usually looks nice on my warm skin tone, I just don’t “feel” it and rarely pull them out from my collection. Merry Whatever, on the other hand, while it is a yellow gold, has pops of silvery glitters that makes it just a little less warm. I definitely see this being a go-to gold polish for me long after this season is over! I have no application issues to report about this beauty.

You’re A Mean One

Is it possible to read the name You’re A Mean One without adding in the next part to the song? I know I cannot resist! Whatever the case, this stunning polish makes being mean look good! This is the perfect polish that allows you to embrace your darker, more defiant and sassy side, as my husband likes to call it, all while still being a sweet angel for Santa’s visit. The application was flawless with this one, so at least the formula plays nicely in spite of the name.

Halloween Nail Art Look with KBShimmer, Salon Perfect, and China Glaze

Happy Halloween, dear readers! I'd going to be a busy day with helping with two parties just during the day alone- one for my kindergartener and the other for my preschooler. Afterwards, we have another party to attend before taking the kids out trick-or-treating. While it may be a busy day, I am so excited to see all the costumes and Halloween decorations! I did want to get a quick post up to share my final nail art look I went with for today. I hope you like it!

To create this look, I used KBShimmer Hide And Eek and added a layer of Salon Perfect's Glow All Out to make them glow in the dark. I sponged on Salon Perfect Shapeshifter and placed some of the limited edition nail decal by China Glaze on top. I used Salon Perfect's Ashes To Ashes on my simple black nails and topped everything off with top coat.

I'm a little sad to have not had much chance to go all out with crazy Halloween nail art ideas, but I'm glad to still take a little time for this simple look.

Get Your Nails all Spooked Out for Halloween with China Glaze Paint It Black Collection

It is the most wonderful time of year- Halloween is only 10 days away and everywhere around me, houses are decorated with their own spooky fashion for the occasion. To celebrate in the festivities, China Glaze has launched their new Halloween collection that is sure to add a spooky and edgy spin to your every day look. The Paint It Black Collection consists of 6 nail lacquers all in a shade of black so you are sure to find your perfect touch. Because several of these shades look deceptively similar in the bottles, I wanted to share swatches of the most similar looking shades side-by-side so you can easily see how these really compare. Ready? Let's plunge into the darkness and check them out!

Pret-A-Potion vs Night and Slay

Night and Slay - Black and iridescent glitter blend

These two shades are the most similar from the Paint It Black Collection with only one key difference. Night and Slay contains with same matte black micro glitters as Pret-A-Potion, but is also includes holographic glitters in both smaller and larger sizes. When shown as a single coat over white, they appear much more similar, but when you build up to opacity, it's easy to see the difference between these two. I had no issues with either polish, and I was able to achieve opacity in just three coats. Please keep in mind that because these are glitters, they will dry to a textured finish and will need top coat to become smooth. Also, they will require a little extra time for removal, but they came off easily with the foil method for me. Alternately, you may prefer to use a pell off base coat.

Maliboo-boo vs Shadies & Gentleman

Shadies & Gentleman - Black matte

While a matte polish and a holographic polish are obviously different, I paired these two together for the sake of this post as these were the two "basic" black shades without any extra bells and whistles like shimmers or glitters. Both shades are pretty and easy to work with, although when it comes to Shadies & Gentlemen, take note that you will want to work fast! As often seen with matte nail lacquers it dries quickly and isn't the most forgiving if you end up overworking it. I don't usually need a ridge filler when I apply polishes, but I think the look would be a little smoother had I used one. Both nail lacquers are shown with two coats for opacity.

Wicked Liquid vs Ash & Burn

Ash & Burn - Black base with copper micro glitter

Wicked Liquid and Ash & Burn looked much more similar in the bottle (although definitely not the same), but wearing them on the nails really shows just how different these two look. The addition of the gold metallic gives Wicked Liquid an almost dark olive look whereas Ash & Burn has more pops of copper against a black base. When it comes to choosing between these, I suppose it's a matter of picking your preferred metallic shade! Both applied easily to the nails with two coats needed to cover any visible nail line.

If all black nails aren't quite your jam or you want to mix it up with a fun accent nail, China Glaze has also released their limited edition Spider Nail Decals. Whether you want your Halloween nails to be cute, spooky, or just a little bit vampy, these decals will help you achieve your preferred look. These decals apply like a sticker: simply peel with tweezers and place on your nails and seal with top coat. No extra steps are needed, so your manicure can be ready to go in no time!

I love black polish, so I am excited to see China Glaze release an all black collection this Halloween season! Wicked Liquid, Ash & Burn, and Maliboo-boo are my favorites although Shadies & Gentleman likely would win me over more with a glossy top coat.

OMG, Look At That Holo: The China Glaze OMG! Flashback 10th Anniversary Collection

Ten years ago, China Glaze released their OMG Collection, one of the first nail polishes collections ever seen utilizing holographic pigments. It was a big deal for those that were interested in nail polish, and even after all this time, these shades are still often sought out by collectors and just those that want to wear these beauties alike. This summer, China Glaze is giving nail polish fans something they have been asking for ever since they retired into the lacquer vault: the return of the OMGs! I'm not gonna lie, I was ecstatic when I heard the news that these were being re-released, so much so my husband thought he was going to have to scrape me off the ceiling in order to leave the office. While there have obviously been numerous holographic polishes released the past ten years, and I certainly own a number myself, there is just something special about the pioneers in the industry. I was incredibly fortune to have a friend gift me a set prior to their launch, and I wanted to share them with you for this evening's blog post. Let's check them out!

OMG

We might as well start off with the collection namesake! I had never before given much thought to silvery nail polishes before, but OMG (the original) was a game changer for me. The formula of the re-released shade is a little thicker than I remember from the original, but it is by no means thick. It applies easily to the nails although with the semi-thin brush, you may have a little bit of brushstrokes during application. I already have nail art ideas floating around with this baby! DV8

I love a beautiful teal polish particularly over the summer; there is just something about this hue combined with swimming pools and beaches that just makes this a go-to colour for me. DV8, and the rest of this collection for that matter, is very similar to that of OMG. It is not too thick or thin and applies easily to the nails. There can be a little bit of brushstrokes seen from application; photos are shown with two coats to opacity plus top coat.

IDK

The lilac colouring of IDK is more of a spring than summer shade to me, although so many people wear whatever colours they want regardless of season so it doesn't matter anyway. Whether you stick closely to the typical summer shades or not, you're going to want to add this to you collection before you miss out! Photos are shown with two coats plus top coat.

BFF

Ten years ago when the original collection was released, I was not a fan of magenta nail polishes and didn't pay any attention to BFF. Now, of course, I'm wondering what I was thinking since this polish is gorgeous! It is one of my favorite shades from the re-released collection and will be getting lots of nail time this summer! The formula was overall easy to work with, but again, you do have to take care with application to avoid ending up with brushstrokes. I have it shown here with two coats plus top coat.

2NITE

I love blue nail polishes in general, and 2NITE in particular is pretty because the holographic effect gives it a touch of periwinkle as the rainbows dance over the nails. I actually have the beauty on my toes now, and I'm not too embarrassed to admit it took me an extra few minutes getting in and out of my car running errands today as it kept catching my attention. 2NITE in particular was the least forgiving with the brushstrokes, and it would best be applied with a slightly thicker final coat and as little brush manipulation as possible. I needed two coats for opacity and added top coat for these photos.

TTYL

TTYL is the shade from this collection that caught my attention first. Given my often proclaimed love of orange here on my blog, I'm sure this surprises absolutely nobody, haha! TTYL isn't quite orange and is more of a red-leaning dark peach, but it is still quite pretty. I'm admittedly on the fence at the whether or not I like it against my skin tone, but I enjoy this colour and will wear it all I want regardless. I have it shown here with two coats plus top coat.
