China Glaze Desert Escape Collection for Summer 2015

Press Sample

Good morning, dear readers! The weekend flew by far too quickly, and I can't believe we are in another week already! I am really eager to jump into today's review post, so I'm just going to jump right on in.
For those of you that have been with me for a couple years now, you already know I used to live in southern Arizona surrounded by the beautiful desert. It certainly gets hot there during the summer, but I loved it tremendously and have missed it a lot since the move. Needless to say, I was ecstatic to discover that China Glaze was releasing the Desert Escape collection this summer. I am so excited about this collection! Let's check it out!

Don't Mesa With My Heart
Three coats plus top coat

Don't Mesa with My Heart is a beautiful bubble gum pink shade. It's not the type of pink I'm usually drawn towards, but I actually like it quite a bit! It was a little patchy with the first two coats, but the third coat leveled it out nicely.

Don't Desert Me
Two coats plus top coat

Now this is my kind of pink! I tend to prefer fuchsia over paler pinks, so I was happy to see one included in this collection. There is a subtle metallic-i-ness to it that is nice, but the best part is the glow. This one is more pigmented than the previous two, and I only needed two coats for opacity. You *might* be able to get away with a single coat if you tend to use thick coats. The formula was great and so easy to work with.

Meet Me in the Mirage
Two coats plus top coat

This metallic rose gold shade was THE one I was the most excited about, and it did not disappoint. Densely pigmented with super smooth application, I just barely needed the second coat that I used for these photos. This is definitely one of my favorite shades from this collection!

Rain Dance the Night Away
Two coats plus top coat

Rain Dance the Night Away is another favorite shade from this collection. It photographed a little more blue for me, but it truly is a pretty medium turquoise shade. Just imagine these photos with just a hair of green to the colour. I feel like there are so many polishes that are similar in colour, but this one has the perfect balance of blue to green for me, making it stand out from the others for me. The formula was nice, and it applied easily for me. The downside is while it did not stain my nails, it did stain my skin during removal. I was able to get a good bit of it off with acetone and a good sugar scrubbing, but you can still see hints of the blue in the following set of swatch photos.

The Heat is On
Three coats  plus top coat

The heat is certainly on with this baby! While the formulas of the other polishes in the collection were good overall, I was blown away the moment this juicy red jelly touched my nails. The formula is smooth as butter, and the final look is just amazingly squishy. I feel like this tomato-red colour is going to be THE colour to wear this summer, and I am thrilled to see it in a jelly-like formula. I am going to wager that this will be the polish that spends the most amount of time on my toes this season.

What's She Dune?
Three Coats plus Top Coat

What a great putty shade! I wasn't sure how I would feel about it on me, but I actually like it a lot. I've seen this nude of several different skintones, and while it certainly does look a little different on everyone, it still seems to somehow work. I did have a little bit of patchiness with the first coat, but it leveled out quite nicely with a second coat. I was convinced I saw a hint of visible nail line so I added a third coat for good measure.

Accent Nail
Colours used:
Rain Dance the Night Away
Don't Mesa With My Heart
What's She Dune?
Meet Me in the Mirage

My accent nail for this post was the start of a nail art look, and I'll have more details up in a post later this week.

I'm really enjoying this particular collection! There is a nice mini range of shades in this 6-piece collection, and I do like that China Glaze included a variety of finishes as well. It's one of those collections that you just can't go wrong with, and there is something for everyone to enjoy. This collection includes shades that I personally don't think of when it comes to the desert, but I certainly enjoyed seeing the desert through someone else's eyes.

The China Glaze Collection is now available for purchase today! Individual colours are available for purchase exclusively at Lock & Mane for $7.50 each. For those of you that prefer shopping in stores, these shades are available in select kits (although not individually) at Sally Beauty stores. I'm afraid this particular collection will not be sold at ULTA, but thankfully there are other options!

What colours are you thinking of picking up from this collection? Do you feel like you're desert-bound with these shades? I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
XO!
