Zoya MatteVelvet for Winter 2015

Good morning, dear readers! I am so glad today is Friday, or more specifically, Thursday is OVER! Nothing major happened, but after waking up from an awful dream, I feel like everything wrong that could have happened did! Of course today is Friday the 13th so today may not exactly be lucky for me either, but I'm already off to a better day than yesterday. Fingers crossed today is a good day!

For today's blog post, I wanted to share with you my swatches of the new Zoya MatteVelvet collection for Winter 2015.
I know not everyone is a fan of this finish, but I really enjoy them. The downside is they have a shorter wear time than other polishes because they are meant to be worn without base and top coat, but if you change your polish often like I do, it's never a problem! The beauty of mattes is not only do you end up using less coats of polish because there is no base or top coat, they also dry very quickly compared to normal polish. I think it's a fair trade off for a shorter lifespan on the nail. Now let's get to some swatches!

Sue
A soft champagne gold with a multi-hued oyster shell pearl fleck

Sue is my favorite shade from the MatteVelvet collection. While not vibrant like the other colours, it is so soft and feminine, and it was love at first site for me. I had no issues with the formula although it is a touch on the sheerer side. I used three coats for these swatch photos.

Iris
A deep amethyst with a fuchsia pearl fleck

Iris is another favorite from this collection. The flecks are so pretty against this purple hue; it's a match made in heaven! The formula was a little on the thin side and I had a little cuticle flooding, but slowing down and a quick clean up fixed that up for me. I used three coats for these swatch photos although two might have been enough. I was convinced I saw a shadow of visible nail line with two coats.

Amal
A classic crimson red with a ruby red pearl fleck

This is the perfect spin on the classic red shade seen for the holidays! This particular polish makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, and I'm sure part of it is due to it sharing the name with a lovely woman named Amal that I met years ago. I have no issues to report with the formula, and I used two coats for these photos.

Aspen
A sparkling arctic white with a micronized diamond pearl fleck

I LOVED Aspen but my camera did not. I could not get it to capture the stark whiteness of this polish and show the flecks at the same time so I opted to share slightly darker photos so you can see the density of the flecks. While the polish look more cream-coloured here, it is definitely a bright white in real life. While I normally don't wear white polishes on their own, I can definitely see myself wearing this beauty! The formula was fantastic and I had no issues whatsoever. I used two coats for these photos.

Honor
A true emerald green with a tone on tone emerald pearl fleck

I adore this shade of green, and it is so perfect for the upcoming holiday season! This is one of my favorite colours to see with a matte finish, and it reminds me of Veruschka, Zoya's other matte green shade. Veruschka is a little darker and Honor has a touch more blue, but you probably won't need both. The colours are similar but not to same so it just depends on how much you like your green polishes. The formula was great and easy to work with; I used two coats for these photos.

Yves
A deep sapphire that's midway in between indigo and royal blue with a blue pearl fleck

What a pretty shade of blue! I just need to add a gold flake topper and my nail would look like lapis lazuli, a gorgeous blue gemstone! I used two easy coats for these photos.

Here is a closeup of my accent nail. I used my dotting tool to get this look.
Here are all the colours with top coat. They are gorgeous with a matte finish, but adding top coat really makes the glass flecks in each of these pop!

The Zoya MatteVelvet collection is currently available for purchase on the Zoya website here.
What do you think of this collection? Do you like the matte finish?

Until next time, dear readers, have a safe Friday the 13th and a wonderful weekend!
XO!

  1. I really like Sue (more with the topcoat) but find the names of Zoya polishes dreadfully boring. Part of the fun for me is the name.

    1. I like the fun names too, but I like that they use women's names for their polishes- it's like having a bottle personalized to you if you can find your name! My grandmother went by Sue, and I like having a bottle that shares her name.
