Nouveau Geek: Star Wars Box!

Press Sample

Good morning, dear readers! I am eager to share this post with you so I'm going to skip the chit chat and get to the real reason you're here. Indie polish boxes have become all the range recently, and there is a box for just about anyone. The latest box to come to market is the Nouveau Geek box. This box was specifically designed to appeal to those of us that have a love of all things geekery, and I, for one, am thrilled! For today's post, I have the upcoming May box to share with you. What else could be a better theme this month other than Star Wars!
I am a large fan of most fandoms, but it should come as no surprise to anyone that the Star Wars box in particular and I were made for each other. I might have done a dance when I found out this was coming my way. Thankfully there is no evidence on YouTube, at least not that I am aware of! Ha!

This box is filled with so much awesome, and there is another goody not included in this photo! Boxes will also include a light-up lightsaber keychain. These arrived at Nouveau Geek headquarters a little too late to be included in this blog post, but I'll be sure to update with a photo when it arrives here! There are so many awesome things in this box that I am having a hard time deciding where to start! Let's jump in with the polishes and go from there, shall we? Ready? Let's do this!

In a Galaxy Far, Far Away
Supernatural Lacquer
Two coats plus top coat

A black crelly with gold flake and shimmer inspired by the iconic opening text

Ah, what could be a better way to start sharing the goodies from this post than with the notorious opening crawl to every film in the Star Wars series! This polish is loaded with so much golden shimmer that it looks like a rich dark brown shade against my skin tone. I'm looking forward to seeing this on cooler skin tones to see if it looks more black on others. I really love this polish, and it's going to be a go-to colour especially in the fall! It applied really nicely for me and the flakes were very well behaved- no clumping, curling or jagged edges to be found!

Planet of Lost Beauty
Leesha's Lacquer
Two coats plus top coat

A turquoise/green color shifting polish with blue/green flakies inspired by Alderaan, Princess Leia's home planet

Wowza! This colour is gorgeous! Between the base shade and the added flakes, I'm definitely in love with this combination! It certainly captures this vast water-filled mountainous and hilly planet perfectly! It does have a metallic quality to it so your nails will certainly shine with this beauty. It applied easily for me, and I had no issues with spreading the larger flakes on my nails.

Rebel Princess
Alter Ego Body Care Products
Two coats plus top coat

A rich brown polish inspired by Princess Leia Organa and her cunning escape from the clutches of Jabba the Hutt

I am swooning over this shade! While it is described as a rich brown, I'm am more inclined to say it is somewhere between a golden bronze and a rose gold. However you choose to describe it, the bright golden flakes and the more subtle pink flashes make this a stunning take on Princess Leia! The formula was fantastic and it applied perfectly for me. It does dry to a slight gritty texture, so you will need to add top coat to smooth out your nails.

Saber the Moment
Sassy Pants Polish
Two coats plus top coat

A turquoise shimmer polish with blue sparks inspired by Luke's lightsaber.

First off, I have to say how much I love the name of this polish! I also need to add a geek warning before I get to this next point- Luke's lightsaber technically wasn't blue. When Luke first was given a lightsaber by Obi Wan, he was given a blue lightsaber, but this actually belonged to his father Anakin, later Darth Vader. Luke uses his father's lightsaber in episodes IV and V before Darth Vader cuts off his hand, resulting in its loss. In Episode VI, Luke appears with a green lightsaber. In order to officially become a Jedi, Luke needed to construct his own lightsaber, and this is the green one. How is this relevant to this post? It's totally not, but I just wanted to fill you in at the expense of exposing my geekness.

Saber the Moment is truly a stunning polish. It is lovely in the bottle, but it glows when it is on the nail! It photographed a little cooler blue than it really is in real life, but it isn't quite a turquoise as Planet of Lost Beauty. The formula was fabulous! I only needed two coats for opacity here, but if you have longer nails, you may need to add a third coat.

Star Wars Vinyls
Toadarrific Vinyls

These are awesome!!! I chose to use the symbol for the Jedi Order as a decal here, but you can use that set of cut vinyls as stencils if you prefer. The Darth Vader decals are composed of three pieces so you're going to need a pair of tweezers to handle the small pieces for placement. I love using vinyls in my nail art so I am happy to see these included in this box!

Captain Phasma Planner Clip/Bookmark
First Sunday Handmade
How cute is this clip?!? I've been planning on picking up a planner for my blog so I have everything nicely contained, and this amazing clip is what is going to make me finally get one! The paper clip is very firmly attached to Phasma, but it looks like it might detach with some wiggling if you wish to use this for something else or if your paperclip breaks. Perhaps you can add a magnet on the back or attach it to a hair clip or a headband? I quite like the idea and may opt to convert it myself! Ha! It is really cute and the embroidery is impeccable!

Other goodies
The Star Wars Nouveau Geek Box includes a few extra goodies from Alter Ego in addition to the AE polish. There is a small bottle of She Shines top coat to help smooth out your nails and keep your polish lasting longer on your digits. There is also a sample vial of egoMANia scent in Magic Man, a woodsy, smoky, musky scent. It smells warm and sexy, and I kind of wish my hubby would wear cologne! There is also a sample of Ego Boosts in Double Agent. This is a face and body cream packed with oils and butters to moisturize your skin, and a little goes a very long way. It is described as a cream, but I found it to be a little on the gritty side before melting with my body temperature on my hands into an oily pool. It absorbed rather quickly and left my hands with a delicious citrus scent from the essential oil that was added to my sample.

The Star Wars Nouveau Geek Box is $50 shipped for all US customers and $60 for international customers. The preorder begins at 4pm EST on May 4th, 2016 and will be open until 3:59pm EST on May 11th. Orders will be filled within two weeks from the order date, if not sooner (depends on transit time of ordered items, as all polishes are made to order). The preorder will only be available at https://nouveaugeek.bigcartel.com. This box is a must-have for any Star Wars fan!

What do you think of this box? What are you most excited about?

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
XO!
