A Candy Corn Halloween!

Happy November, dear readers! I don't know about you, but I am relieved that October is finally over! As much as I normally love the month and Halloween, this past one has just been one thing after another. I've been averaging about four hours of sleep at night all month long and I am definitely starting to crack.  Thankfully most of the time sensitive things I've had to deal with, often while solo parenting two toddlers, was last month so I can hopefully get a little rest in this month. At least that is what I'm telling myself anyway! Ha! Now on to today's blog post!

I had tried to get this up yesterday while it was still Halloween, but everything was going against me. I suppose nothing says you *have* to have candy corn during October only, although it is traditionally associated with the holiday. My oldest son confiscated my cowboy hat I was planning on wearing for Halloween, and I was too lazy to go pick up another one. I needed to come up with a different EASY costume idea, and since I had not yet done candy corn nails for Halloween nail art, I opted to go that route. Check it out!

What's this? A new pose? Yes and no. The curvature of OPI bottles makes my normal hand pose super awkward for me so here's something a little different. After all, Halloween is all about not being yourself, right? Speaking on not being myself, check out this nail shape! I took a break from my normal squared off nails all October and sported more of a coffin shape. While filing my nails the other day, I was *slightly* distracted with Supernatural and ended up with a far more rounded look than I wanted. It's cute to I opted to just run with it for a little bit before I return to my usual squared off nails.
To create this look, I started off with OPI Alpine Snow. Over that, I then sponged on No Faux Yellow, Juice Bar Hopping and more Alpine Snow to make the gradient.
While the candy corn gradient is cute, it never seems quite complete to me. I already knew I was going to be doing candy corn nails at some point in October, and I had the lovely Laura of Ellagee create this adorable custom glitter topper for me. I named in Uni-Candy-Corn, of course!
Uni-Candy-Corn was not released as it was a last minute thought on my end (and a special thank you again to Laura for whipping this up for me so quickly!), but you can still contact Laura/Ellagee if you have a custom in mind for yourself. I've worked with her a few times, and it's always been fun! If you adore Uni-Candy-Corn as much as I do, there is a possibility it will be making an appearance for next Halloween in Laura's shop. You just need to have lots of patience!

I also went with a candy-corn inspired look for my makeup as well! I bought this fabulous highlighter, Toothache, by Bitter Lace Beauty, in the beginning of October, and while it took almost four weeks to get to me, it arrived just in time for Halloween so I could play with it. I'm wearing it here as a single swipe so you can see the yellow, orange, and white lines on my face. Even though this highlighter was originally designed with Halloween in mind, the colours blend together beautifully to create a beautiful golden shade that is wearable year-round.

For my eyes, I used shades from the Malibu palette from BH Cosmetics. It is no longer posted on their site so I believe it may now be retired, but it was the colourful palette from the California Makeup Collection. I've not touched this palette in quite some time, and I forgot that these shades take quite a bit of layering to get decent colour payout, but for the price of the palette, it was worth it. I actually had ordered a few things from another company at the beginning of the month *coughcough* ColourPop *coughcough* and my order was only just shipped on Halloween. Thankfully I remembered having this BH Cosmetics palette, and it made an acceptable substitute for the day.
Another look at my eyeshadows and highlighter! I really wanted a little more orange, but the colour payout for the orange from the Malibu palette was horrendous. You win some, you lose some, right?
Due to ColourPop not shipping my order in a timely fashion, I also didn't have the lipstick I wanted to wear. Boo hiss! Unfortunately, my bright/unusual lipstick colours are even more limited than my limited eyeshadow options so I ended up using Gerard Cosmetics lipstick in 1995 to complete the look. While it may not be the exact look I had planned, I'm pretty happy with it, even if taking selfies to share here are still awkward for me.

What did you think of this look? Is it something you would do any day, or is it something you'd limit to Halloween? Also, if you wear brighter colours, I'd love to hear your recommendations, both for eyeshadows and lipsticks!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
XO!
