China Glaze: Spring Fling

Press Sample

Happy Monday, dear readers! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and your week is off to a fabulous start! I had the beautiful Spring Fling Collection by China Glaze show up at my door last week, and I've been busy swatching these beauties so I could share them with you ASAP! This twelve-piece collection offers a range of finishes in several colour family groupings. China Glaze set out to take your nails on a tropical rendezvous with this collection, and with these colours, you certainly do feel that way! Let's take a closer look at each shade and I'll fill you in on the details.

Too Much of A Good Fling
Two coats plus top coat

Let's just start off with one of my favorite shades from this collection. A pale green-leaning turquoise cream, Too Much of a Good Fling applies beautifully and is so deliciously creamy. With the colour and formula being top notch, this shade is sure to be a fan favorite!

It's A-Boat Time
Two coats plus top coat

I know metallics aren't everyone's jam, but I quite liked this one! The formula was easy to use although the final look is a little brushstroke-y due to the finish. You can overcome the brushstrokes by sponging on the final coat, but this is what the polish looks like on the nails when applied normally. There are small sparks of green shimmer in the bottle that is present on the nail although it is subtle and can only really be seem with close examination and in certain lighting. You should be able to see some of the green sparks in my closeup although they were difficult to photograph.

Kiss My Sherbet Lips
Two coats plus top coat

What a beautiful fuchsia polish! The formula is superb and the colour flawless! There is golden shimmer in the polish, but the shimmer is very subdued by the base. Rather than flashes of gold, the final result is a beautiful lit-from-within glow. If you want this shimmer to show more, this polish likely will leave you wanting more, but I am personally fond of the glowing effect of this beauty on my nails.

Moment in the Sunset
Two coats plus top coat

I adore the colour of this polish, and it applied nicely for me. While I only needed two coats for opacity, this colour is a little on the sheerer side so those that paint with ultra thin coats or have longer nails will likely find they need a third coat. As for the finish, I have mixed feelings about it. I could deal with the slight hints of brushstrokes, but this combination gives the polish a less-than-flattering textured appearance. I assure you, my nails were very smooth in these photos and the combination was not as well-designed as it could have been. I'm not quite ready to write off this polish as I LOVE the peachy pink shade so much, but I'll probably end up using it in nail art for pops of colour where the textured appearance isn't as noticeable.

Life is Suite!
Two coats, NO top coat

Life is Suite! is a pretty peachy nude polish with a matte finish. It dries very quickly, so if you want to use this, you really need to paint with a purpose: get those coats on quickly and move on! I couldn't move quite quickly enough so there are some areas that are a  little uneven, and it probably would have been better for me to not try to "work" the polish and just add a third coat where needed for opacity. In my closeup, you can hopefully see some of the ultra subtle silver shimmer also located in this polish, although I think it can get lost too easily if your nails aren't perfectly smooth. That being said, Life is Suite! is the perfect undies to wear with....

Sun's Out, Buns Out
One coat over Life is Suite! plus top coat

This pairing is truly a dream come true! Sun's Out, Buns Out has the slightest pink colour to the base, and while you might be able to build it up to opacity on its own with numerous coats, I think it is best suited as a topper. And what a topper it is! I'm smitten with this polish, and this combination in particular! This topper makes me think of the bright flashes of sunlight as it is setting, and it would look amazing over other shades!

Crushin' On Blue
Two coats plus top coat

This is a beautiful marine blue with an aqua flash. It applied nicely for me, although you can see some brush strokes. Those with longer nails or who paint with very thin coats may find they need a third coat for opacity, and a final coat would best be sponged on to diminish the brush stroke effect.

Blanc Out
Two coats plus top coat

I was initially a little nervous about Blanc Out since white polishes are notorious for their troublesome formulas, but I am happy to report this applied amazingly well for me. The first coat was a little streaky, but a second coat smoothed my nails out perfectly. I don't wear white polishes on their own on my nails as I find the final look to be too harsh, but this is definitely going to get a lot of use as the base for nail art. Rather than a straight white, Blanc Out looks like it has been just barely kissed with blue for a cooler effect although it's only noticeable against other white objects.

Beach It Up
Two coats plus top coat

ARGH!!! Beach It Up looked so pretty in the bottle and had so much potential for greatness, but in reality, it was a major letdown. I was even willing to overlook the awful holo silver bar glitters since they are sparse and could be removed if desired, but it was the microglitters that killed this for me. The microglitters against the light coppery base makes for a very unflattering textured appearance. This polish could have been salvaged should they made it a true texture and really went all out with a nonmetallic finish or alternately skipped out on the microglitters (and let's say the bar glitters because nobody likes them anyway), but the designer behind this one should feel ashamed of themselves. Yes, I am *that* upset about this polish because it sounds fun on paper but the reality is anything but. To be honest, I couldn't really tell you if the formula was bad or not (I think it was at least ok) because I was so put off by the final look. Save your money and skip this one.

Don't Teal My Vibe
Two coats plus top coat

This is a pretty metallic teal shade! You can see some brush strokes with normal application, so you may wish to sponge this on to avoid the effect. Even though it is a little brushstroke-y, it's still a beautiful polish that glows.

We Run This Beach
Two coats plus top coat

I'm just going to say it- this polish needs a different name. With a name as powerful as "We Run This Beach", China Glaze really should have offered something other than a pale pink-leaning nude. That being said, this is a beautiful colour and the formula is fantastic. I didn't find it to be too thick or thin although some may need a third coat for opacity.

I Just Cant-aloupe
Two coats plus top coat

I Just Cant-aloupe is another one of my favorites from this collection. A punchy pinkish peach, this colour screams spring and summer, and I'm definitely going to be grabbing for this baby a lot! It definitely gives off the tropical vibe China Glaze wanted to achieve with this collection, and with a fabulous formula, I couldn't be happier with this beauty!

I have mixed feelings about this collection overall. The creams are fantastic, so if you're a fan of the finish, I definitely can recommend those. While the colours aren't entirely unique, they are well done. As for the other shades, it really comes down to how you feel about the finish. Sun's Out, Buns Out is fabulous and definitely worth picking up in my opinion, if only to be used as a topper. Crushin' On Blue and Don't Teal My Vibe are beautiful colours that glow, but you can see brush strokes, an effect that I know is a turnoff for some people. Life is Suite!, the matte shade in this collection, is not easy to work with due to how quickly it dries, and I can't recommend it if you're planning to wear it on its own. Beach It Up is just a hot mess and I'm going to forget it exists after this post to help China Glaze save face for releasing that monstrosity. Yes, I'm still bitter.

The China Glaze Spring Fling Collection is available for purchase now. Shades can be picked up at your local Sally Beauty stores as well at online at Ulta for $7.50 each. Both locations are currently having polish promotions where you can save money if you pick up more than one bottle.

What do you think of the China Glaze Spring Fling Collection? Are there any must-have shades for you? What finishes are you loving or wanting to avoid? I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
XO!
