As any beauty lover can attest, there are a plethora of lipstick shades to choose from. It can become overwhelming quickly, even for those of us that love to be surrounded constantly by makeup, and it can be downright daunting for those that just want to pick up a few key staples to use day after day. Even if you already know you are looking for your perfect red, it isn't always easy to find the perfect shade for you. This is where TōN Cosmetics comes to the rescue! Whether you are searching for your perfect nude, red, or pink, TōN Cosmetics will help you out. The brand was created by two sisters, and they have taken the guesswork out of the equation for you. They have developed nine shades in each colour category! Don't know exactly what your skin tone or complexion is? TōN Cosmetics offers a simple questionnaire on their website.
I had the pleasure of meeting with TōN Cosmetics at Cosmoprof North America (CPNA), and I was matched with the "fair" and "medium" complexions and the "warm" skin tone. To keep things easy for this post, I opted to stick with the trio of "Fair Warm" shades.
Rather than give each lipstick a fancy name, the names are kept simple. The naming convention starts with complexion (Fair, Medium, or Dark), followed by undertone (Warm, Neutral, or Cool), and then a number (1's are nudes, 2's are reds and 3's are pinks).
Fair Warm 1 - Fair Warm 2 - Fair Warm 3
Fair Warm 2
Smooth and creamy, this red lipstick glides on effortlessly with a simple flick across the lips. While all three shades I tested are soft, the red was noticeably softer to me; it's almost like my normal body heat melted the colour on the bullet onto the lips instantaneously. While this does make for comfortable wear, you will want to be sure to use a trusty lip liner to keep it from feathering outside the lips. I never wear lip liner as I don't experience feathering other than from a minute set of lip products, but I definitely need it with this baby. This lipstick does stain the skin; that lip liner is essential.
Fair Warm 1
I know some people live in nude lipsticks, but nudes were never my jam. I always had ended up picking up the wrong colour for me and was never happy. Thankfully TōN Cosmetics understood my dilemma and came out with something better suited towards me! Fair Warm 1 is smooth and is soft to the lips. The first layer was a little for me and had some thinner spots, but a second swipe covered up those areas nicely. I do like this colour a lot, although I'm not really convinced it is the ideal nude for me. I find it to be a little too peach against my olive skin tone and feel a caramel hue is a better match for me. From what I remember of Dark Warm 1, and seeing it again on the TōN Cosmetics website, I think that would be a better match, or even a blend of the two shades.
Fair Warm 3
Do you ever see a colour and expect one thing and it ends up looking completely different than what you anticipated? That's definitely how I feel about Fair Warm 3! In the tube, it looks much more coral, but as soon as it touches me, it pulls much pinker. There were 3 of us that swatched this particular shade on our forearms while at CPNA, and it was really interesting to see just how coral it looked on one person, pink on me, and somewhere in between on the other. The application was buttery smooth, although the first layer had the slightest hint of patchiness. A second quick swipe on the bullet across my lips evened everything out beautifully. If left to my own devices, I'm not sure I would have picked out this pink for myself, but I absolutely love it!
I have really enjoyed trying out these lipsticks from TōN Cosmetics, and they certainly have entered into my frequent lipstick rotation. These are quite literary buttery lipsticks: they contain shea butter in addition for vitamin E oil for a truly hydrating experience. The wear time for me for all three of these was about three to four hours, depending on what I was eating or how frequently I drank. I like to blot and powder a first layer of lipstick before adding a second coat, and this helped me achieve the longer timeframe, even with eating. I still had the base layer on my lips and would quickly touch up with a swipe of the bullet to impart more colour on them.
Take the quiz on the TōN Cosmetics website to find your perfect colour!
TōN Cosmetics lipsticks retail for $15.50 each and can be purchased directly from their website.

ReplyDeleteI didnt think I would like Fair one based on the swatch but I love it on you! Like such a good everyday colors!
ReplyDeleteThese colours are great for everyday wear!
DeleteI love that last one on you. I know you love warmer shades but this brightens you so much. I'm impressed that the lipsticks look so creamy. That's what I'm all about. Off to check their site.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a colour I would normally gravitate towards, but it is just warm enough to suit me. I agree, it does add a great amount of brightness to the look!
DeleteThose shades look great on you! I wonder what they would recommend for light olive skin?
ReplyDeleteThey don't really operate with olive, just cool, neutral, and warm. I have very warm light-to-medium olive skin so this set would be for those with warmer fair olive skin tones. That said, I've seen cool and neutral olive skin tones, so it just depends on where you fall between the three.
DeleteI looooove that red on you, wow! What an interesting approach to shade selection
ReplyDeleteThank you! I LOVE red lipstick so I was eager to see what exact shade they went with. It's a great concept, although as someone with olive skin, I don't think the shade choices are all perfect, at least not the nude.
DeleteI love all the shades you’re wearing! I think giving names will make it easy for people to remember the shades
ReplyDeleteI love their lipsticks and packaging!!! I finally found the perfect red thanks to them!
ReplyDeleteI figured I'd like the neutral one best but the bright red looks amazing on you!
ReplyDeleteI really like the bright red. I feel like I could rock it!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a neat concept. I find colors in the store that I thinkI will love and then when I get them home and try them something always seems to be missing. I need all the help I can get with getting that just right shade.
ReplyDeleteThese all look great on you!
ReplyDeleteYou rock these shades!! I tend to wear nudes the most because of office job, but you’re making me want to break out a red today.
ReplyDeleteI am also one of those people who nudes are not flattering on. Makes me look too washed out. I also never thought pinks would look good on me, but was amazed when I did try one on and it actually looked nice. Trying them out is the only way to know for sure. Just looking at a color just doesn't always work.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shades and swatches. I love this concept and they did a fabulous job pairing you with shades.
