L' Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer

Greetings, dear readers! I hope you are having a wonderful week and have something fun planned for the weekend! After being around so many people while attending Cosmoprof North America and then the busy airports to get home, I am unsurprisingly sick. Boo hiss! I've been laying low and taking it very easy the past few days, and I am crossing my fingers I am over it by the weekend. I don't have anything specific planned, but I do have a lot of things I want to photograph, test, and review on my blog! I better cut the rambling short and get to this post!

Provided for free by Influenster in exchange for an honest review.

I am a member of the Influenster community, and I was selected to test out the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer for 14 days. This is a "Triple Power" moisturizer because it contains hyaluronic acid to penetrate the skin and fight wrinkles, and concentrated pro-xylane to simultaneously firm and tighten skin and re-volumize to strengthen skin. The results are purported to be instantaneous: your skin should be deeply hydrated and the complexion will be more radiant. At one week, my skin should look smoother, and after four weeks of use, skin elasticity will be increased, and my skin will appear both firmer and younger.

The recommended regimen for both morning and night is to cleanse the skin thoroughly and then apply L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Concentrated Serum all over the skin. L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Eye Cream is then applied. The final step is the application of L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer all over the face to deeply hydrate and transform the look of aging skin. Because I was only sent the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer for review, I did not test the full suggested regimen for this post.

This moisturizer is quite thick, and a little seems to go a long way. I have combination skin that has a tendency to lean more oily in my T-zone over the hot summer months.  I was definitely nervous about participating in this particular challenge! While this moisturizer didn't feel overly heavy upon first inspection, I was definitely concerned it would still be too much for me for a twice a day application for this time of year. In the end, what is a beauty blogger to do but to bare all, imperfections and all, and give it a go. Let's see how the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer worked out for me!

To start out, here is what I look like the morning of the challenge. This is me shortly after hopping out of the shower: my hair is slightly dried but clearly a mess and my skin is freshly washed by free of everything at this stage. While this is Day 1 of the challenge, the scientist in me refers to it as Day 0 as I had not put anything on my skin at the time of this photo.

Thoughts after my first application:

The first thing to note about this moisturizer is that the product is contained in a jar, and I am personally not a fan of products like this. While I can get all the product out very easily, unlike with a traditional tube, I do not like having to put my fingers into a jar and potentially leaving residual bacteria from my fingers that may not have washed off completely during my immediately proceeding handwashing step. I definitely need to use a clean utensil for these types of products and would have liked this to have come with its own mini plastic spatula or something similar. I ended up using a clean Q-tip to scoop up the product I needed to apply the cream to my face.

This cream-coloured moisturizer felt cool when applied to my skin and smoothed quickly into my skin. While the final finish was soft and certainly not greasy, I still felt like there was an almost tacky film left on my face. I didn't mind this too much with the first application, but it did reaffirm my concerns that this moisturizer would be too heavy for my skin with twice a day application as directed. *GULP* Well, I was already committed and ready to check back in with photos at Day 7 and again at Day 14.

To fully test the claims of this moisturizer, I decided to only wash my face in the mornings and evenings and then apply the cream. I decided to not use any other serums or skincare products for this time period so I could be certain any results I saw would be the direct result of L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer and not from one of my other products. I also limited my makeup routine to my usual tried and try products that I already know do not cause issues for me due to skin sensitivities or breakouts.

Day 7

Here I am on Day 7, first thing in the morning and just after a face wash (I had not yet applied the L'Oréal Revitalift moisturizer). Please pardon the slight darkening at the bridge of my nose as I had not yet put in my contacts and it is due to my eyeglasses that I removed for the photo. The good news is that the wrinkling I've started seeing at the corners of my eyes looks softer than it did a week prior to this photo. The bad news is just how badly my skin broke out! Now I do have some imperfections anyway, so here's a look at all my new breakouts, both the obvious and those that are more subtle but definitely present and felt by me!

I never thought I would see that day where I am trying to make you look at my breakouts, but there you have it! I generally am not one to have pimples beyond one or maybe two when.....ahem, Aunt Flow visits, but I planned the timing of this test so I could be sure that would not be the case. To have so many breakouts is not common for me at all, and I was shocked at just how back it was below my mouth and on my jawline. My skin felt super soft, and while I liked the effect this had on the outer corners of my eyes, I did not want to be breakout central, especially since I conducted this experiment prior to attending Cosmoprof North America! At this point, I decided I needed to change tactics and only apply this moisturizer once a day rather than the two as directed. I washed my face in the mornings and followed up with a lightweight gel moisturizer I've been using for MANY years and saved the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer for application in the evenings after washing my face.

Day 14

Here we are at Day 14, and even with dropping one of the applications in favor of a lighter-weight moisturizer, I was still breaking out horribly! While some are really obvious, I found a lot of my pimples during the last week of this challenge to be the ultra-low, barely noticeable to others variety, but the slightest bit of pressure and OUCH! Let me circle them for you!

Oh yeah, definitely not so great when I pinpoint the location of my new pimples for you! While I appreciated the lessening of the intensity of my crow's feet at the corners of my eyes, I certainly couple have done without all the acne the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer created for me!

Based on my experience with this moisturizer, I cannot recommend it for those that have combination or oily skin. I think it may work well for those with dry skin, or even those with combination skin during the drier winter months, but even then, I'm not particularly fond of the slightly sticky finish to my skin, a sensation I noted to last many hours beyond the initial application on my non-makeup days. When I switched to using this only at night, I found it tolerable as I slept through the sensation, but those pimples! I even had breakouts on my cheek, a place that I generally never see a pimple! I am a side sleeper, and since I broke out predominantly on the side that I sleep on, I think the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer is just too heavy and pore-clogging for night time use. I am considering trying this product again when the weather cools and the air is much drier to see if that has an impact on the results, but if the tacky finish stays consistent, regardless of whether or not I see pimples, this product is a no-go for me. At the time of this post, I'm going to say this product is sadly a pass for me. Even though I am not a fan of this moisturizer, I am interested in trying out the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Concentrated Serum and Eye Cream to see if I can still obtain results with a lighter moisturizer.

Have you tried the L'Oréal Revitalift Deep-Acting Moisturizer? Did it moisturize your skin well? Did it cause you to break out? I'd love to hear how it worked for you! If you've tried the Triple Power Concentrated Serum or Eye Cream, I'd love feedback on those as well!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
XO!

  1. I couldn't even make it through the 14 days. I made it 2. I don't have very sensitive skin, and it still burned me. The scent also made my allergies flare.

  2. Yikes! What a bummer. I have combination skin so I'd definitely need to avoid this. I applaud your dedication to the product in fully testing it out.

  3. Big pass for me then! I'll stick to my lush moisturizer where I don't break out. I'm trying to avoid that at my age! lol

  4. What if you just used the lotion at your crows feet area and not anywhere else on your face?

  5. Awww. I'm SUPER breakout-prone so I can completely sympathise with your experience. We acne-cursed lot need to avoid the richer products, and pile on light layers of runnier products instead.

  6. What a bummer. I have a bunch of moisturizers that didn't make the cut. Most of those turn into body lotion to avoid waste.

  7. Revitalift line is one of my favorites from L'Oreal! It's always fun to see new products they keep adding to it.

  8. Always such a bummer when a new product makes you breakout. I have combo-oily skin and it can be so sensitive!

  9. Thanks for the amazingly thorough review! One of the problems I have found with mass-market anti-aging moisturizers is silicone content. When I was reading about your breakout I went to go check the ingredient list for this. Sure enough, dimethicone, is one of the ingredients, which sometimes causes breakouts for me, too. It is probably just too rich on the whole for normal or oily skin types, especially in summer.
