ESCADA: Fiesta Carioca Eau de Toilette

Happy Saturday, dear readers! It's going to be a relatively uneventful one around here as my oldest is still sick and I'm pretty sure I'm coming down with his illness now. My kids are pretty good about sharing in general, but I must admit I wish they kept their germs to themselves! Even when I catch the same thing from them, I always seem to have it worse! Please cross your fingers for me that I don't get too ill and it passes quickly! Now on to today's blog post!

I don't share a lot of fragrance posts on my blog since fragrance preference is so personal, but I recently bought the latest ESCADA summer perfume and thought I would share my thoughts with you should you be considering picking this up for yourself. When I think of the brand ESCADA, I think of simple, but beautiful, fashion pieces, but they also have a line of fragrances as well! Each year, ESCADA releases a limited edition fragrance for the summer, and this year marks the 25th anniversary of summer fragrances.

Top notes: Passionfruit, raspberry, and violet leaf

Middle notes: Passion flower, orange blossom, and jasmine

Base notes: Musk, cedar, and benzoin

Wen I bought this perfume, I did something I would normally NEVER do: I bought it based entirely on the description alone without smelling a sample. I was swept away with the description of fruity plus floral and something about being whisked away on an exotic summer destination and blah blah blah. If you haven't guessed, I am definitely regretting that decision! Let me take a step back for a moment and talk about the presentation before I get into the fragrance.

ESCADA has some classy shaped bottles for their fragrance line in general, but their summer fragrances are released in this shape. I'm all in favor of sticking with "classics", especially for milestone products such as a 25th anniversary, but let's be real, this bottle looks like a cheap perfume someone bought for me from Walmart when I was a teenager. The original summer fragrances might have come in a bottle with this type of overall shape, but rather than having a cheap-looking image on the bottle, the bottles themselves had a little bit of curvy texture and/or the lids were textured, making them look so much classier than the eyesore that is now in front of you. Rather than go back to their original roots for the 25th anniversary edition, they opted to go with this tawdry design. That being said, I could get over the look of the bottle should the product inside be exemplary. It's quite far from it.

Fiesta Carioca was to be evocative of summer passion with exotic fruits and flowers against a musky-wooden background, but on that note, it left me wanting.....to throw it in the trash. I found this perfume to be far too sweetly scented and the warmth that should have toned it down was just not present. Unfortunately, rather than smelling nicely fruity, albeit too sweet for my taste, the smell is reminiscent of rancid fruit. Without the putrefaction factor, it is a scent I *might* have liked when I was a teenager, but I definitely can't get behind this product as a woman in my 30s. The positive thing I can say about Fiesta Carioca is that the scent completely disappeared on me within 4 hours on both my wear time tests so at least I didn't have to suffer with the scent too long.

If you've been looking to pick up a new summery fragrance this year, I strongly encourage you to skip ESCADA's Fiesta Carioca Eau de Toilette. Even if you happen to like the fragrance, I personally feel it is overpriced for what you get: the bottle looks and feels cheap and the smell doesn't last long. The 100mL bottle retails for approximately $79 although you can find it online cheaper through a variety of websites. Thankfully I didn't spend that much on my bottle, and it's a small price to pay to remind me to TEST OUT FRAGRANCES FIRST before committing to a bottle.

Have you tried any of the ESCADA limited edition summer fragrances? If so, which is our favorite? What other brands and scents do you like to wear over the hot summer months? I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
XO!

  1. Super cute packaging! I'm one of those people who has been wearing the same fragrance for 15 years. Once I found one I liked and got compliments on I stopped buying anything else. I should probably try something new though. Hope you and your kiddos feel better soon! It's the same in my house when one gets sick it makes it's way through all the kids and then I get hit.

  2. Feel better soon! I liked sniffing the Escada perfumes when I worked at Ulta years ago but never bought any. This summer I've mostly been using a BBW Body splash but my signature scent is Chloe!

  3. I'm with you on the bottle. It looks really cheap and packaging is part of the reason I'm willing to spend more on fragrance. The scent list sounds amazing but I'll pass on the rancid fruit. Can you return it!!?

  5. The scent sounds ok, you are brave to buy without smelling first! The bottle seems a bit juvenile tho.

  7. Putrid fruit, sounds like I definitely would not like that scent at all. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one.
