KBShimmer: Falloween Collection, Part 1

Press Sample

The days are getting noticeably shorter and there has been a chill in the air making long sleeves a necessity at least part of the day. All around, the leaves are starting to turn to their autumnal hues of oranges, reds, and yellows and Halloween fare has begun to be stocked on shelves in stores. It may still technically be summer, but fall is certainly upon us! I love so many things about fall, from the boots and scarves, to sipping my favorite coffee beverages, and even more so to be best holiday of the year: Halloween!

With a change in season often comes fall-inspired nail polishes collections, and do I have one to share with you! KBShimmer has created a collection that embraces not only the crunch of falling leaves but also the spooky things that go bump in the night. The Falloween Collection consists of ten polishes in a range of finishes, and there is sure to be something to suit your fancy. Rather than share one intensely picture-heavy post, I will be breaking up this collection into two posts. Without further ado, here is the first half of the Falloween Collection.

Spell Check
Two coats plus top coat

Spell Check nail polish is what I think magic would look like if we could see it. Spell Check's deep blue jelly base is loaded with flakes that flitter between greens, blues, indigos, and aqua. Build up layers for a squishy look, or layer over a dark blue or black to really let the flakes shine.

What better way to set the scene for this post than with a Spell.....Spell Check, that is! This is a gorgeous polish and one of my favorites from the collection! I was able to build it up easily to complete coverage although my bright lights show the slightest hint of nail line. It has a touch of teal with the first coat, so if you want a look with fewer flakes, this would be pretty layered over a nice teal hue in addition to the suggested dark blue or black.

Naturally, I had to add a matte top coat to this beauty.

Plus Oh Matte! top coat
Spell Check is beautiful with both a shiny and matte finish although I have a certain weakness for my flakes with a matte finish.

Smashed
Two coats plus top coat

Smashed is a spiced pumpkin linear holographic nail polish. This deepened orange shade leans towards a tarnished copper and is the ideal shade to wear while sipping your fall latte or eating that slice of pumpkin pie.

A Falloween collection just isn't complete without an orange polish, and Smashed is just one of two orange options being released by KBShimmer this season. I can definitely see the slight brownish hues to this spiced orange, and as a pumpkin pie fan, I'll certainly be wearing this as I eat mine! The formula is really smooth and will make you want to grab for this beauty over and over again!

Best Witches
Two coats plus top coat

A rich purple hue, Best Witches is filled with silver holographic glitters for more sparkle than the best of spells.

Thanks to the movie Twilight, we know that vampires can sparkle, but KBShimmer sets out to show that the best of witches can keep up, with their own purple version, of course! This is loaded up with glitters so you will want to take care to not overwork the brush during application lest you end up with a slight uneven application, but overall, it is easy to apply to the nails. It does dry to a slight textured appearance so you may want to add a second layer of top coat for a smooth finish.

Fool Moon
Two coats plus top coat

Fool Moon is a multichrome polish that has a complex shift that starts with a moonlight yellow and warmer goldenrod, shifting into shades of sage, olive, and at extreme angles, a dusty blue.

The bright lights at my work station makes it difficult to catch all the shifts found in multichromes, but thankfully I can count on the refraction of light in water to help me capture them! The formula of Fool Moon is smooth and creamy overall, but it does dry to a slightly streaky appearance. I don't personally find it to be a deal-breaker, but those that wish to avoid any streakiness can sponge a final layer on to avoid it altogether.

The Snuggle Is Real
Two coats plus top coat

The Snuggle Is Real is a neutral tan cream ideal that reminds me of my favorite blanket. This shade makes the base base for glitter toppers and is a colour you will wear all year long!

With the range of colourful and dazzling shades in this collection, it is easy to overlook the cream, but that would be a big mistake. While The Snuggle Is Real may look like an unassuming almond hue, I have learned to never underestimate a well-made creme polish from KBShimmer! Whether you are looking for the perfect simple polish undies to use as a base for a topper or just want a fresh, clean shade that is work appropriate, The Snuggle Is Real is a must have for any collection!

This, dear readers, concludes the first half of the KBShimmer Falloween Collection. Be sure to check back in tomorrow for my review of the other half!

The Falloween Collection will be launching September 15 at Polish Con Minneapolis. It will then be made available online from KBShimmer October 1st. Each of these shades will retail for $10 USD.

Which of these shades have caught your attention? Are you one of the lucky people attending Polish Con and able to get them in person with the first launch? I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, dear readers, have a wonderful day!
XO!

  4. I adore Spell Check! It IS indeed what you imagine magic would look like if it were visible. Think Department of Mysteries in Harry Potter.

    1. You know, I didn't really think of that. I know a lot of people think of Harry Potter when it comes to magic, but that's not where my mind goes. I'm sure it is the colour, but Spell Check has my mind going to water magic, especially with mermaids!

    1. I hope you do! I got my first one a couple years ago and was blown away with how well it applied. Their creams are arguably my favorite formula from any other one I've tried so I hope to see more colours come out soon with this finish!

    1. SO MUCH GLITTER! It's a bit much for me for a full mani, but I love it for an accent nail or peeking through black for a more subtle effect.

  9. Spell Check looks like little pieces of ice floating just below the water's surface, especially when you added the matte top coat.
